The best idea i could think of is a "New Statesmen" type idea with Blackadder being in the conservative government, melchett being the prime minister, darling or percy being the deputy prime minister. Baldrick perhaps being the stupid PA.
But it will probably be linked too much to Yes Minister and The New Statesmen. Perhaps modern version with todays labour might work. God knows how you'd make that funny though! In those days you made jokes about Poll tax. These days it's gun crime and terrorism!

daily express quotes richard curtis as saying blackadder will return next year, great news if true. all we need now is a button moon revival.

You have to remember that it was done specifically for the Millenninum Dome Cinema....as a show suitable for all ages. I think this put pressure on Curtis to put things in that would appeal to even small children...I would expect the new series to go out at 9pm or 9:30, and should be as well pitched as the previous 4 series (hopefully).

Agreed. It was a New Labour lovefest.
I wonder if Edmund Blackadder would think that Gulf War II - Attack Of The Clones was as pointless and unjust as WW1.

The story was indeed a bit weird, but then it did suffer from it's production as a Millennium dome exhibit (and on that note, one does have to wonder why they chose Blackadder - the original was never exactly family viewing. The technical quality of the production though I think was excellent, and did show that Blackadder did have the potential to return.
As for the timeframe, well who says it has to be after WW1? Just because the original series moved forward through time, that doesn't mean that Blackadder V has to do the same thing - there's plenty of history they haven't covered.
What I personally wouldn't mind seeing is a remake of the first series from 1983 - whilst the show was visually very impressive and appeared to have more money spent on it than the other 3 series put together (aswell as the excellent original version of the theme tune), the humour just wasn't as sharp (aswell as some very different characterisation - eg Blackadder was a bit thick and Baldrick was actually the most intelligent out of the lot). Revisiting the medieval setting but applying the same style of comedy prevelant in the later series would be a good idea - and I'm sure Brian Blessed wouldn't turn down the opportunity to excercise his booming voice if he were asked to reprise his role as King Richard IV.
