BIG XMAS BREAKFAST

Hi Forum - I was watching the Big Breakfast on Channel 4 Friday morning and noticed as part of their christmas look they are using titles from the Chris and Gaby era - quite cool really! The old music from over 9 years ago.

What are the forums thoughts on the Channel 4 breakfast bid, I like the BB and hope it stays.

Ps. Is that Central news' Joanne Malin on the SKY NEWS WALL!

Get rid of it and launch some new breakfast program on Channel 4, all fun and exciting. Let's face it, The Big Breakfast's days are numbered. I've lost count of the times they've changed everything on it.

They've never once changed everything on it because the basic house is still there!
The race is down to just two (3 if they get desperate, P24, BSkyB and Princess and Endemol as the third. However this could be false because P24 had it written into their contract that they would be allowed an entry in the final round. I'd quite like the BB to stay, but is needs to advertise, get decent presenters, sort the house out (and indeed the use the house as their pilot was set away from the house) and get a couple of good presenters (which again worryingly they used Bacon and Moyles).

So are pilots recorded as if they are live? Do they get edited? Do the presenters get to rerecord if they mess up? Is everything very scripted? Are there advert breaks?

Sorry for all the questions - I'm curious

Sorry to disappoint but I havn't got a clue, the above is all just information i've cobbled together from various sources, if you want an answer to those I suggest you contact C4.

AFAIK the pilots for BB and most other live shows are 'recorded as live' - i.e. one take. Also, on the graphics - these graphics have been used on the BB every xmas, they've never changed their xmas graphics despite several changes in the rest-of-year sequences. But then, they do work well on screen....

Im suprised they never came up with new graphics over the years. Can everyone reemmber the BBs short lived new look? After only a couple of months it reverted back to the old logo.

The graphics are new, by graphics I mean astons and news backdrops, however by graphics you must mean titles and yes they are using the original ones although they have edited in their new sunrise!

Yes they have, twice.

The start of the Adams/Davies era they completely re-did the house in an art-deco style (including plastering over the brickwork) and had new graphics.

- but then everything returned back to how it was, uncluding the bricks which were painted back on!

Then this year they re-did the house again, and got completely new graphics and logo.

-once again everything returned to the original style

I know they have had huge changes, but you are missing my point, the basic bricks and mortar(although they have been plastered!) of the house haven't change neither has the location, however both of hose may be changing now.

One thing that amused me about this year's relaunch was that when the Adams/Davies relaunch happened - redesigned house, totally new presenters etc. - ratings plummeted and C4 nearly axed it then, but decided instead to 'derelaunch'. After that, ratings picked up again (although that was probably also to do with the word-of-mouth rising popularity of Johnny & Denise). What amused me was that after J&D left BB said they were going to completely relaunch, and I thought 'You've tried that before and it didn't work, so how do ya know it'll work this time' and it didn't! Proof, if proof be need be, that I know more about breakfast telly than Channel 4! Quallliitttyyyyyy!
