So its the big soap battle tonight as Emmerdale and EastEnders go head to head with hour long specials.

Which do we think will win the ratings battle?

For the record, EastEnders started at 18:59 with Emmerdale starting at 19:02. So far there's been 2 short parts with the 2nd ad break at 19:21, so they are obviously saving the long parts till the good stuff

I'm with EastEnders for what it's worth.

Emmerdale has been interesting so far tonight, though there was a slight cock-up with the adverts leaving a still of the ITV 1 logo for a few seconds.

As I dont watch Eastenders, I watched Emmerdale. It was'nt that good really, certainly didnt need an hour.

I hope Emmerdale dont win, maybe then the bosses at ITV will stop these stupid hour long specials and 6 nights a week screenings.

There wasn't an episode on Sunday this week so there is no extra episode. I don't think it would have been as good split across 2 days, today's definally was worthy of an hour long special in my opinion

EastEnders was quite clearly two episodes stuck together although the pace and storyline is still fanatasic. However I do hope that this battle of the soaps won't continue as it will do neither of them any good.

It's simply BBC One playing ITV1 at their own game.
ITV1 decided to air hour long episodes of Emmerdale when Eastenders was at it's lowest to beat it with the second half of the hour long, so now that Eastenders has still got the ratings from the death of den with them they've started tonights 30 minutes earlier to try and get viewers away from watching Charity's exit.

Good on the BBC for doing so in my opinion, I don't watch any of the soaps so I'm not biased either way, though it's clever scheduling.

Den was killed so there's no need to watch that any more. As for Emmerdale Farm, hasn't Annie snuffed it yet?

I was on 2W watching an excellent programme about St David's, wonderfully timed for St David's Day.

Happy St David's Day, Nick!
