Does anyone know what channel the Big screen in the middle of liverpool shows because when i was there last year i think it was sponsered by the BBC and it had bbc logos around it but now it has RBS logos, and also it says the number of days till 'Liverpool 2008 City of Culture'
It was showing BBC One one day, Then Stuff about 96.7 Radio City!!
Silly question, but for these big screens to councils have to pay a licence fee (in addition to the thousands they cost to install!).
this is how i understand the setup, the screens in themselves are not recieving equipment, they are fed by dtt boxes located elsewhere, and "elsewhere" usually has a tv licence already. councils generally pay a modest amount - usually crowd control etc, bbc just pay for a screen manager, rest of the costs are met by philips and RBS.

To finish this thread, it shows News Reports, and a couple of times, various terriestrial BBC channels. Really just varoius stuff, but has news things going across the screen at all times.

i think you mean: all bbc 7 tv channels, locally made films and local events in the city are shown live.
The Big Screen in Manchester varies between all BBC Channels, mostly BBC1 or News 24, it also carries loads of stuff that you would find on BBCi, it also promotes BBC GMR too. Though I remember once during the 2002 World Cup it was proudly showing ITV1.

On Monday and Tuesday of last week it was showing a message in Italian for Juventus fans..from memory it said something like Welcome to Liverpool in Italian with the background of the italian flag.
I remember walking behind one of the big screens in Trafalgar Square once and it had two humble digibox things proudly stacked on a table. I presume they are the source of the broadcast material.

The screen in Liverpool has a ticker on it and some other local information. Who updates this? The news/sport ticker is often showing news from several days sometimes weeks old.
