Both the Daily Star and The Sun tomorrow reporting that Channel 5 have axed Big Brother, with the series to end in the summer.

No surprise - ratings have halved in four years, the boss has no enthusiasm for it and they've just ignored the fans ever since they took the show over.
I preferred the internet when it had a sense of humour.

It seems to be gaining traction with more of the papers and magazines now as The Mirror and and OK are reporting on it. The Express were on it a fortnight ago though saying that it could be axed to due the huge drop in ratings.

Doesn't surprise me in the slightest though. Channel 5 seemed hell bent on getting people in there only to inflate their below 'Z-List' celebrity status. Apart from the odd few, I actually have no idea who the 'celebs' were that have been in it since Channel 5 took it on.

I suspect even if it was to carry on Emma and Rylan wouldn't be around too much longer, Emma having to do her gig on The Voice among other things and Rylan 'taking a break' from This Morning probably has a deeper meaning too.

I suspect Rylan ‘taking a break’ from This Morning is because he doesn’t want to burn the candle at both ends whilst Big Brother is on and he wants to have a nice holiday at the end of it.

I’d be slightly surprised if this story is true, I imagine it’s still one of Channel 5’s better rated programmes. It was a mistake for Channel 4 to drop it and I don’t think Channel 5 would want to make a similar mistake. They still commission a lot of programmes around having the anchor of Big Brother.

Not to mention that the Channel 5 family was up last year despite Big Brother falling and that's due to the other shows they've commissioned like Cruising with Jane McDonald, Rich House, Poor House and The Yorkshire Vet. The money they're spending on Big Brother could be freed up to spend on other shows.

Big Brother is past it's time. It had a good run, but it's time to move on

I'm not surprised about this news. Big Brother has lost much of the mindshare it had commanded in the Noughties.

Factual entertainment now seems to be the big moneyspinner for Channel 5.

Factual has always been a strong performer for the channel and last year they started branching out and it got them noticed in the media with things like The Accused
