I see that after tomorrow’s launch, Channel 4’s new reality tv project ‘The Circle’ is going head to head with Big Brother, could be interesting to see how it affects things.

Like he's in any position to say that. He makes executive decisions as well as narrates now does he? Such wishful thinking .

He probably knows more about his own job status than you do. Rolling Eyes
They're not being very subtle about it. There's clearly already a deal with another channel in place .

By definition you are suggesting he knows there's going to be a continuation of BB/CBB elsewhere and not only that but he is also going to continue to be employed by any new masters, who have already certainly done the paperwork for the channel shift. Feel free to believe it if you wish, but I sure don't.

OK then, you've convinced me. I'll just disregard his comments and assume you, Rich Tea of TV Forum, have far more insight, into Marcus Bentley's employment status than Marcus Bently does.

Hope that puts this crap argument to bed.

The only reason love island exists is because Big Brother was in contract with Channel 5

Really? I don't remember ITV being so interested when Channel 4 axed the format? Love Island is relatively fresh compared to the 18 year run of BB which has become more desperate as the format has been stretched to death.

Yep. The head of itv's digital channels Angela Jain (as her role was at the time) said she was looking for Big Brother and she said she couldn't take it because Channel 5 had locked them into a contract so that's why love island became plan b. I guess love island was axed but then came back in a different format so there's still hope for Big Brother.

Personally, I’d love to see big brother on ITV as I feel the calibre of contestants would improve, particularly on the celeb version. At the risk of turning this into a fantasy thread, who would you like to see turn up as a housemate on the show that wouldn’t have been possible on Channel 5... I mean, could they afford Kay Burley? Now that would be TV gold

Marcus Bently confirmed several times under the tweet in question that he didn't know anything. I think he is just trying to keep fans who follow him motivated behind this #SaveBBUK campaign.

With that said, and as I have mentioned before too, the production team are very blatant in their use of "on Channel 5". Perhaps, there is something in the works or maybe considering it has already ended once before, it just makes more sense should the show ever be saved in the future to be explicit about the current broadcaster.

I don't know how realistic it is for ITV to take it over, but they could drop back to one series of CBB a year—running it in the winter—and run the civilian series after love island. Many folk have talked about moving the show online to Amazon, Netflix or Youtube. I don't know how this would work in practice and the impact it would have on what's left of viewers. I think in order for Big Brother to move entirely online it would need a format overhaul and I think the Celebrity series would more than likely be dropped, whether or not these changes would bring longevity to the show I can't say.

I see what you mean and I think if Angela Jain got involved then that would happen. But a lot can change in a few years and now that Love Island is a major hit she might be over the idea of having Big Brother on the channel. The boat may have sailed.

The strong feeling amongst most fans has been that Channel 5 haven't treated the show well so the news wasn't taken entirely badly.

They altered the format, increasingly cast housemates who appeared on other reality shows or have a mild amount of fame to them as well as breaking the fundamental rules of Big Brother by allowing contact with the outside world and not to mention the numerous times they have changed the rules by implementing twists at the 11th hour to alter the outcome of evictions. They once evicted someone at launch night and then later that week they put the annoying showbiz guy back in because they obviously regretted taking out someone who would wind up the housemates. Now, the final nail in coffin is the awkward scheduling.

It reminds me a bit of The Big Breakfast in its last few years. The bosses at Channel 4 made no secret that they didn't want it but Planet 24 had negotiated a one year notice period. Plus the brand was still huge and ratings were still higher than anything which had previously taken that slot.

It's not a great look when your broadcaster has made no secret that it doesn't want you, and I can't help but feel that Ben Frow has done the show a disservice. It sniffs of snobbery, and I'm not sure how snobby someone can afford to be when they've chosen to commission a remake of Blind Date.

Plus there is a distinction between Channel 4 and Channel 5 in that the former has a remit to push boundaries. Channel 5 has no such remit and therefore could have been forgiven for continuing to cash in on Big Brother.

I get the feeling Channel 5 never really wanted normal Big Brother because it's a huge commitment but they couldn't just have Celebrity Big Brother.

I could imagine Big Brother on ITV2, I think it would fit well in the Winter

But only if they limited it to one series a year rather than how Channel 5 have run ridiculously long series multiple times a year

Also they’d have to take it back to basics, lose the fact that half the talking points consist of people being racist or offensive, and also maybe leave it a while so it generates some sort of anticipation rather than just yet another series.
