They have no incentive too though when they know even if they clinged on for 3 days straight producers would still turn around and introduce another "twist" which sees them having a 4 in 6 chance of being evicted at the end of the week when they weren't even nominated in the first place. UK housemates can't even influence their own fate through the nomination process anymore, never mind through competitions.

"Respect" is the key difference between the two formats IMO. Firstly Canadian producers have respect for their cast and treat them fairly, unlike BBUK who play favourites. Every single twist this season was announced either to viewers or the houseguests before it was known who might benefit from them.

Secondly though the focus on gameplay in Canada (and the US) actually brings about so much respect amongst the cast - you'll see people fighting against each other all season but very rarely is it personal and at the end of it all there seems to be an attitude of respecting your opponents in the game, rather than holding grudges.

Meanwhile in BBUK they argue over eggs.

I agree with that statement. The North American versions have largely been about strategy and how to play the game and less about bickering about personal issues....usually. I would imagine though being in that house would highten tensions.

Oh NBC-Owned spanish language TELEMUNDO network has annouced they are going to launch Gran Hermano USA (Big Brother USA) in Spanish.
Quote:
A new Spanish-language version of Big Brother is to air in the United States on the NBC Universal-owned network Telemundo.

‘Gran Hermano’ will employ the gameplay-oriented American Big Brother format, with a cast of US Hispanics voting each other out one-by-one until the last person remaining wins a yet-to-be-determined grand prize.

Telemundo says it will air over 100 hours of content across the thirteen-week series, which will be made by Endemol Shine North America subsidiary Endemol Shine Latino.

Viewers will also be able to ‘see events unfold in real time’ at a ’24-hour online hub’, but the announcement did not explicitly state whether it would include live feeds.

“We are pleased to add yet another truly global hit franchise to Telemundo’s reality lineup,” said Telemundo president Luis Silberwasser. “We are pleased to add yet another truly global hit franchise to Telemundo’s reality lineup.”

Cris Abrego and Charlie Corwin, co-CEOs of Endemol Shine North America, stated: “We are thrilled to bring ‘Gran Hermano’ to the US Hispanic audience with our partners at Telemundo.

“This series continues to resonate with TV audiences all over the world and our team has developed an exciting new version that we believe will resonate with the Spanish-language viewers here in the US.”

Gran Hermano USA is the first brand new incarnation of Big Brother to be created since format creator Endemol’s merger with rival production company Shine was given regulatory approval in December.

It follows in the footsteps of the English-language American version, which will return to NBC rival CBS for its seventeenth season on 24th and 25th June at 8/7c.

It will be interesting to see where they build the house. Will it be in LA or will it be in Miami where Telemundo is HQ'd. I doubt CBS would allow use of that house. (And why would they....it probably will fall down if its used too frequently. The creaky, insect infested shack. LOL) Endemol USA produces BBUSA/BBCAN and now GHUSA. Seeing as they produce BBCAN in Toronto i wouldnt imagine it has to be shot it LA. But we'll have to wait and see. I thinking CBS might be secretly annoyed. But multilingual single country versions arent usual for BB in North America. Quebec produced several series of Loft Story/Secret Story and the format reappeared when they produced 1 series of Big Brother (Quebec) all in Qubecois a few years ago. The Big Brother (Quebec) version loosely follow the American format where as the LoftStory/Secret Story followed the French format or something like that.
