Yes, but you can't take any chances if something is suspect. Look at the BBC bomb.... an innocent taxi, parked in a taxi rank.

A similar thing happened at the Grand National bomb scare - that was a genuine bomb scare as a telephone warning was given, but a controlled explosion was made on a Uher - an open-reel portable tape recorder used by radio journalists.

If no-one knows what it is and why it is there it's suspect

I know, and I agree with that, but apparently it was a "bit of technical kit that was supposed to be there all along", meaning somebody must have know it was there and what it was and that it didn't look out of place. But I agree, best to be cautious.

Of course it should have been there, but it wasn't necessarily allied to the Big Brother production. There might not have been anyone there who knew what it was. After all the other programme at Elstree uses pyrotechnics - Who WantsTo be a Millionaire

But if it was supposed to be there, and was just some electronical equipment, why did they carry out a controlled explosion?

Because at that time, the production staff, police or army had no guarantee it was supposed to be there. It could easily have been planted by someone for that reason - people would presume it was meant to be there, when in fact it was a bomb.

Because if they looked inside the bag or whatever it was to see what it was.... and it was a bomb. It would probably have exploded!

ARGH!

How many times do I have to say it - a sniffer dog reacted to it - that's why they evacuated the house!

The task will now take place on Sunday afternoon, probably during BBLB.

Theres no way it was a publicity stunt. Channel 4 would be in serious trouble if it was. The Police and Army would certainly not take part in any such stunt.

Yes they would. But there is a temptation to see as 'suspiscious' package and call in the un-witting police and army.
