So with £50 million saved with the cancellation of Big Brother, do you think Channel 4 would be interested in bringing back The Crystal Maze back for 2011? With all new zones and all new games for the 21st century? With the cost of producing the show always having been a problem in discussions on these forums over the past few years or so, surely they would have enough money to reinstate this show? Once a week over the Summer? Surely?

No, I think Channel 4 made it quite clear that it's going towards original drama, comedy and acquisitions. C4 are not going to bring back the Crystal Maze (as much as I'd like it back).

by the way:

Davina has also been announced as the host of ''Just Dance'' a public dance competition for Sky 1 starting in January.

Well, that's the end of that discusson then... Rolling Eyes ...you could have dragged it out a bit longer you know! Wink

Sorry man, but seriously I'd love to see it recommissioned, I spent my childhood watching it on C4 and Challenge TV.

If Channel 4 claim to have a big makeover for it's schedule, what are the odds of a new face for it? Wink

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! The Best News from Channel 4, probably ever.

Even though in the long term this move could damage the channel in a perminant way? I doubt they're seeing it as positively as they're letting on somehow. One of the highest rated and paying programmes they've ever had, and it's vanishing from their resume. Nothing will ever create the mass market appeal for C4 that Big Brother has done for so long.

And at a time where the channel is already financially struggling, it could even be one of the nails that eventually seals their television coffin. Hopefully this is an extremist conclusion, but one that could happen nonetheless.

I wouldn't be surprised if the final series next year gets good viewing figures.

I'm sure there's a lot of people like me who used to watch religiously back at the height of the show's popularity but these last few years have hardly noticed it's been on (I honestly have no idea who even won last year!) and will come back to the show for one last year for old time's sake.

Aside from the main series, who on earth are they going to find for CBB7?

Last night's episode was one of the best if you like to see the behind the scenes bits. Two of the housemates went on an old double decker bus around London (yes, someone at Endemol likes vintage buses) complete with various crew (at least two cameras) and the other housemates went in to the camera run (without permission) and what seemed like the roof space for the house too. The coverage of them in the camera run was quite good considering quite a few people probably had to think on their feet when it happened.

Brookside was carefully axed, and incredibly pre-determined when you think back to how they messed with its scheduling. And then ironically as soon as it's axed, the budget for Hollyoaks shoots up, which is also ironically made by the same company? Hmm, I wonder...

As for the Big Breakfast, possibly now the 2nd biggest mistake the channel has made in recent years. Cause RI:SE did sch a good job afterwards didn't it... seeing it had to be replaced with yet more flippin' Friends. That's all will replace Big Brother in the end I bet, more reruns of Friends. The basis for E4 will ship over to C4 too. Rolling Eyes

I bet a lot of washed up celebs would love to go on CBB. All they have to do is live in front of cameras for three weeks, do stupid tasks and nominate. They don't have to risk breaking their leg to do ice skating, don't have the hours they have to do for Strictly, don't have to eat bugs or sleep outside etc. Its quite a cushy job. The only hard bit about Big Brother is being booed on the way in and out, which is now so normal it has no effect.

Yes, I'm sure Channel 4 are planning to show an hour of American sitcom repeats every single night in prime time for three months every summer!

They were talking about having a 3 night a week 16-24 comedy series which would run for 10 weeks at a time I think. I'm trying to imaging how that would work but I really just can't. Teens, topical news and a sitcom is a recipe for disaster.

If it was me in charge of this ''Creative Refresh'' I'd put 5:30 to 7 as T4 every night. Put a daily show (music, chat, general teen stuff) on (not friends for the love of god), Simpsons and Hollyoaks.

Get more drama in the schedules. The project from the director of 'This is England' looks good. Just need more of it.

Some kind of cheap reality show to replace BB, maybe strip Shipwrecked twice a week with viewer involvement? It's already being made, wouldn't cost much and it's popular with teens.

But seriously, Channel 4, you have £20 million pounds to play with. Make something as good and as edgy (at the time) as Teachers and I'l forgive you, oh and the Crystal Maze.

I think this ongoing 5-6 year rumour of C4 concidering The Crystal Maze will never come to anything for 2 reasons... they can't get the same vast space to make such an expensive set, that would be all HD friendly and cost even more than the original. And they'd never get a presenter that would be as liked as Richard, EVER. It was his show, and therefore noone could ever replace him and get away with it.
