Why cant they just axe it now so it closes 10 years of BB. It makes sence then.

Channel 4 signed a contract with Endemol in 2006 taking BB up to next year. If they could end it now they probably would.

Big Bro is way past its sell buy date. I gave up on it after BB6. I'm not too bothered that's its going, but I have a feeling cheap, tacky and crap ITV1 will pick it up, it's a huge flop for 1 series that they do and then they axe it also!!! ...............of course if ITV do buy it, STV wont be showing it!

Its finished.

To be honest Gavin, the show was finished in 2002 when Kate Lawler won. That was the best the show ever was, and it should have bowed out gracefully then. Sadly, the producers decided to make it even more controversial and try different ideas that never really worked.

Good riddance.

I agree, BB3 was the peak, BB4 was dull because everyone was too nice to each other, so instead of getting a balance of housemates they decided to go controversial.

It's something called a contract.

If for some miraculous reason the ratings are as high as 4 or 5 million next year Channel 4 are going to be very embarrassed and another channel would jump in. But I can only see it going to either Sky or Five.

It's something called a contract.

Contracts usually have escape clauses, or can just be broken if the financial need arises (although perhaps not à la Setanta or ITV Digital in this case). Confused

However, C4 maintain that they have still made a profit from this series, despite previous suggestions that 3m viewers was a 'break even point'. If they had actually lost money this year then it would be worth weighing up the cost of breaching the contract or buying out the remaining year.

Perhaps C4 are hoping that the 2010 series will attract more viewers, even if it's simply on the basis of rubber-necking its demise for a few final weeks. Wink

Not surprised about this news at all. C4/Endemol haven't given a stuff about this series anyway. It's a case of "oh we've got to do this tripe again..".

I've been saying since about 2005 - the show has had it's day.

Big Brother is no longer the "controversial" television show of the year that most people tuned in for. It's long had it's peak and the experiment to see how random people live in a house and interact with each other 24/7 is finished. C4 have realised this. You can throw as many new personalities in a house as you want but the fact is, it's no longer "new" and the entertainment it provides is repetitive and boring.

It would probably cost C4 too much to break-off their contract early - with or without an escape clause - and pay-off Endemol AND replace the 200 hours of airtime with new content. As C4 say the show is still profitable, they probably can't justify spending the extra money they would need to in cancelling it?

Endemol had a long contract with C4 that covered a number of series of the show - you can't just axe a show on this kind of deal without some financial consequences. This is a business after all...

I had already answered their question politely. Why did you feel the need to jump in with a sarcastic reply?
