CBB7 and BB11 next year to be last (May 2009)

It takes Big Brother the length of a series for its "first year" to be complete.

Therefore, by the time the second series arrives it is in its second year. It is therefore 2 years old. Ergo, in its tenth series it is ten years old.

Why would anyone not be able to comprehend this? How illogical would it be to wait for the 11th series to call it the "tenth birthday".

That certainly a unique way of calculating a year, but whatever floats your boat, I suppose. I've certainly never seen it being used elsewhere.

I can honestly say that no part of this interminable discussion "floats my boat".

Having read those pages on another forum I'm absolutely astonished someone can find so much to say on the subject.

Does it really matter?

I agree with the person saying this year is big brother's tenth series not it's tenth birthday the other BB (big breakfast) started in 1992 and ended in 2002 so ran for ten years (nine years six months and one day if you want to be really bloody pedantic Rolling Eyes ) so would have had it's tenth birthday on September 28th 2002

big brother, started in 2000 then 2010 is it's tenth anniversary not 2009

it's like your age, when you are born you're in your first year but you are not actually 1-year-old until the end of that year, your first birthday is the start of your second year, your 40th birthday is the start of your 41st year

so

BB1, 2000, 1st series
BB2, 2001, 2nd series, 1st birthday
BB5, 2004, 5th series, 4th birthday
BB10, 2009, 10th series, 9th birthday
BB11, 2010, 11th series, 10th birthday

and yes the show is so boring I'd sooner discuss the mathematical illogicalities of chronology

It was a year in the planning. Broadcasting the first series was the culmination of a year's work.

So it is 10 years old.

That may well be the case, although C4 selected 14th July to celebrate the anniversary. It would be a remarkable coincidence that they did in fact start planning the series exactly a year before the first broadcast in the UK and before the first ever BB was broadcast in the Netherlands. Smile

Indeed. It was certainly one of the more popular threads in the other forum. Wink

Does it really matter?

No, of course not. But internet fora rarely discuss matters of genuine importance.

Well it would be a bit daft to celebrate it when they weren't on air.

It is, after all, a television programme.

According to your theory, they were celebrating the tenth anniversary of a date (14th July 1999) when they weren't on air.

More incompetence from producers in handling Kenneth's departure. The precedent is the eviction always goes ahead, unless there are just two nominees and one has left, and with another 10 facing the vote, no reason why it couldn't go ahead tomorrow.

They've even given Kenneth a Davina interview tomorrow - he's only been there 5 days and hasn't done anything anywhere near interesting enough to warrant it on the main show.

They're just using some artistic license to make some telly that would be slightly more interesting than otherwise, only a small minority are going to question this.

Quite right too, as I suspect you would be alone if you had such feelings.

However, your comments suggest quite an intrasigent point of view, and your usual need to have the last word on a subject will necessitate a further response, no doubt! You'll be discussing it on your own if you wish to continue.

I think you've mistaken my willingness to point out an anomaly with any genuine concern about Big Brother or how C4/Endemol want to advertise the series.

I was a commenting on a random thought regarding BB; my discussion in the other forum was about how someone attempted to justify their logic, and that was far more interesting than the programme which initiated it.

I can't imagine how I made such a mistake.

Quote:
I think we should be told which newly created rules of numeracy C4/Endemol are using the justify this scam. No other TV programme has ever tried to twist mathematics in an attempt to whip up support from an apathetic public.

It smacks of desperation, and I for one won't be watching any of this fake birthday week. The viewing figures are now below 1.5m, if they drop much further they won't even register on BARB's figures!

They may as well have announced it as 'A Century of Big Brother', because that's just as credible.

Does anyone else feel that their intelligence is being insulted by this blatant scam?

"Scam", "credibility", "insulted intelligence"?

If that's not you showing "genuine concern", I hope you give forewarning for when you do.

I'll book a holiday.
