Right, basic Key Stage 1 Maths:

You are born on 14th July 2000.

You are 1 year old on 14th July 2001, correct?

You are 2 years old on 14th July 2002, correct?

So when are you 10 years old?

But events are different though. This is one of those never ending "chicken or egg" arguments I guess.

Anyway, the producers of BB don't really care much for the show this year - I know it's handy for them to blame the recession but y'know.. the ad-break teasers have gone as has the 24/7 live feed which basically means critics/the BB spies over on the likes of DS are having trouble keeping the "exciting" news updates rolling with the likes of "10.47pm.. Siavash picked his nose then went to sleep after a conversation with Lisa.." etc. They have tried to alter other little bits of the show (i.e. the eviction interview) in a last ditch attempt to try and revive it but unfortunately it has failed because the show has had it's day partly due to the fact that anything even slightly controversial that happens now involves the housemate/s given a rollocking in the diary room and thus whatever entertainment aspect is quickly over.

It becomes boring - unfortunately in some cases reality tv is at a level now where it has become so fictionally scripted it would only become remotely dramatic if say, one of the tasks involved live hanging or a housemate had to escape from a fire in the kitchen etc etc etc.. much like what keeps us watching soaps.

After 10 years (or whatever) it's time it ended..like an ill pet.. put it out of it's misery. Don't bring it back next year.

But events are different though.

Different in what way? All anniversaries celebrate an event. What other sort of anniversary can there be?

It takes a child 12 months to become 1 year old.

It takes Big Brother the length of a series for its "first year" to be complete.

Therefore, by the time the second series arrives it is in its second year. It is therefore 2 years old. Ergo, in its tenth series it is ten years old.

Why would anyone not be able to comprehend this? How illogical would it be to wait for the 11th series to call it the "tenth birthday".

That would be nonsense.

If they'd just gone "it's series 10! Big round number! Wooh!" there would be no issue. Unfortunately, logic and dictionaries exist, you can't go around saying "we're ten years old today! Wooh!" when anyone who looks at the dates can go "er, hang on a minute..."

This won't be a problem when ID cards are introduced.

Why would anyone have an issue over a silly matter of semantics?

Have people actually spent time debating this? Good lord.

Speaking of semantics: NO-ONE CARES ABOUT SEMANTICS.

Also, ID cards are no longer going to be introduced to the wider population. Keep up, lad.

debating? no.

however on another forum, someone did spend four pages insulting, belittling and generally lording it over anyone who disgreed with his viewpoint on the matter.

I like how the only bit of actual Big Brother news on this page got completely ignored in favour of more mathematical discussion. Says a lot about this series...

Don;t take it personally Rob.

I reckon that's what the producer's been saying too.
