We can exclusively reveal series talks are well underway and include the discussion of the futures of Big Mouth and Little Brother.

“I’ve not seen as much care go into a series since series five, and that was the last time there was serious change.”

We’ve been reliably informed that talks are underway about Big Brother’s next series and that there is a general consensus a feeling of ‘marked change’ is needed.

And following Dermot’s departure from BBLB this year and Russell’s departure from BBBM last year, producers are apparently leaning towards the idea of shelving both shows.

“They seem to want to put as much as possible into the main show,” our source told us. “I’ve not seen as much care go into a series since series five, and that was the last time there was serious change.

“The auditions were held earlier this time to allow even more time to pick a good group. They [the producers] don’t want any repeats of previous series but a very broad mix of people. I hope that happens, because that’s the most important thing.”

Thought I'd make a new topic for the new main series.

I kind of hope BBBM and BBLB are axed, actually. They should make a new spin-off, airing at teatime, with a mix of psychological analysis and interviews with "famous" people, as well as exclusive news.

The series NEEDS to work and be a success, so it's no surprise they are furiously planning it.

Unless i'm wrong, dont we usually here a story like this every year. I think BB9 will just be like the last recent ones we've had, sadly.

I doubt it somehow. The ratings have been terrible, the press coverage largely negative and a lot of people simply don't care about the show anymore. The producers know changes have to be made.

It's no secret that every single aspect of the show is being looked into ahead of BB9, but I doubt BBLB and Big Mouth will be axed as essentially any replacement shows will just be basically the same but under different names - and as E4 keep reminding us about their demographics, having the two separate shows helps cover two demographics very well.

Both shows though, like the main show, need seriously revamping and to essentially go back to their routes. For BBLB this means less celebrity chat and more behind the scenes info, while for Big Mouth t here actually needs to be more debate with contribution from viewers, not just the same old cast of audience regulars.

The timings need to be looked into as well - ideally the post-eviction Big Mouth should be axed in favour of live streaming, while I'd probably say axe the Sunday BBLB too and instead revamp On the Couch into a weekly spin-off for C4, with a mixture of psych stuff, chat with the latest evictee and more analysis of the week gone by, for example looking at the press coverage etc.

And as for Dermot being irreplaceable - nobody is irreplaceable when producers need to replace them.

I'd axe both and have a replacement show that combines elements of the two. BBLB was always a better show on C4 - it lost its way when it was shunted off to a terrible slot on E4. BBBM was always a better show with Russell. The guest-presenter thing didn't work at all and those two overrated morons who did it for CH just reinforced my belief that the show is nothing without Brand and it should be dumped.

I suspect the next series of Big Brother will have a grand prize of a quarter of a million pounds and the opportunity to slice Davina McCall's legs off.

Hopefully that will put an end to this awful programme.

I liked BBLB when it first started, and for the first few years. But it seriously lost its way. They were clearly trying to influence viewers during the last few years, the most annoying was the constant promotion of Nikki Graham in BB7.

If they can find a decent new presenter, and return to the impartiality of the original show then I don't see any reason why BBLB couldn't have a new lease of life.

I found Russell Brand irritating to a point well beyond my ability to suffer. I did, however, watch some of the BB8 season BBBMs and some of the guest presenters were quite good.

Yes the two from Teachers (who's names escape me at present, is it Matthew Horne & James ???) were the best ones, however I've lost too much interest in this show so I didn't watch them on the Hijack BBBM

I had the same problem with Mat and James as I did with Russell really - really liked them both, but only in small doses. Big Mouth definately needs a regular presenter for BB9 - but more than anything they need to get a real audience in every night rather than the usual bunch who appear so often they think they're actually important.

I was anticipating there would be a serious change of thinking behind the new series of BB, especially given the change of plans with CBB this January, it seems like all energy is being focused on the main summer series.

I've never enjoyed a season as much as series 5, so I hope the sort of unexpected twists and genuinely original thought that went into the "Big Brother turns evil" theme will be refreshed for this series.

Roll on summer! I forget what happened with Elstree, have they disbanded the usual house and gone for the new one yet?

Heat had said they were building a new house, were housemates would arrive by boat - mind you the house did look like an Ikea store.
However, its now being reported/confirmed (not sure which) that they've deicded to stay at Elstree till 2010.

I presume that awful Sunday night programme with Davina will be axed as well. An hour was far too long to delve into speculative rubbish.
