Indeed. I have never been a fan of the show but even friends who like it say enough is enough for BB after this series.

One change I'd like to see is voting for the person you want to keep in rather than the one you want out - although it seems like a minor thing I do think it would make people think more about who they find more entertaining. Also it could make for different results when there are three people up for eviction.

This year it might have worked better, but on the whole I prefer the Voting Out. It also diversifies Big Brother from other shows as I believe it is still the only show where you vote against people. One thing which may have affected votes this year is the number of times three people faced the vote. Hence, those wanting to keep someone in have to decide who is more likely to be voted out.

Also, just an idea - on eviction night (during Davina's interview), the housemates go into the diary room to vote for who they prefer, between the evicted housemate (who got the least votes using the system of voting for the person to stay in) and the person who got the second least amount of votes from the public. However, they don't know who was the second least popular (and obviously, one of them is that person!). If there are more votes for the evictee, then they will return to the house and the second least popular in the public vote goes out. Obviously if the housemates vote for the mystery person in the house, they stay and the evictee doesn't return. Hope that makes sense! I don't know if it would work, but it's an idea, and would make for more interesting conflicts because the returning HM would know what everyone has said about them.

Perhaps they could do that twice or three times in the series rather than every week, though.

It doesn't make sense at all. If I'm reading things correctly, your basically saying that the housemates can veto the public vote. This wouldn't work as it effectively renders the public vote as pointless and it might as well be the housemates that vote in the first place.

No, it doesn't render the public vote as pointless. I'll explain it with the current system of voting:

One thing I didn't mention: the THREE people with the most nominations are up for eviction.

> The public vote for their least favourite person. That person comes out, but during their interview the housemates go to the diary room.

> Each housemate then has the choice of swapping the person who has just been evicted with the person in the house who got the second most amount of votes from the public. The thing is they don't know who this person is.

> If the housemates vote in the majority for the evicted HM to stay out, then they stay out and everything stays as it is. If they vote for the evicted HM to return, however, they will return and swap with the person who got the second most amount of votes from the public.

So it's the public's least favourite two nominees who the housemates have the choice between. Maybe the best times to do this would be when the voting is close - say if there were 10% or less in it, so it's almost a tiebreak.

It's just an idea!!

That's explained a bit better, but would still be impractical - as if the other housemate was voted out, they would have to do another interview.

Talking of double evictions - one thing I thought about this weekend is that Jon could have pretended he was never evicted and the double eviction was just a cover up for him being taken out of the house to be put back in again.

But there has only been one bad series of BB and that was this years. Also its had more viewers that series 1 & 2 and also its still a hit for C4. You have to look at in the context of C4. They usually get about 2m when BB isnt on air.

BB5 could be be brilliant if they get the mix of hm8's right. But people wont give it a chance which is sad. Dermot O'leary said that its a summer fixture and like Wimbledon & Glastonbury it has it good years and not so good years. I preferred an aspect of this years thus being that it didnt seem as though the hm8's were acting to the cameras like bb3.

I dont think that C4 will give up yet. One bad year and everyone reckons its dead! Also C4 have said they are looking to take it past the current four deals even if ratings drop because it bumps up e4's ratings!

Our television service is not to be with the sufficient financing for causing a maintained transmission of such caliber! When such, recieved I the the same transmission, which I discussed in this cotton thread, by which net Scoovision, which transfers once in first, believes possibly even an early continuation into the prominent half marking. My question concerned led, this journey rather maintained too, is a reduced kingdom of the united existing transmission of the large brother of the angels, or my local government dictatorship permits an original program which can be caused to such?

Are you just putting stuff through a translator? I find it hilarious. Spot the lie in the previous sentence.

My ideas include having guests arrive such as celebrities. Imagine having a housemates' personal hero in the house!! It would be great. Also, how about having plants in the house who are there to cause trouble or to reveal sensitive information about housemates. Or how about having a house full of people who can't speak each other's language. Or how about having separate houses that are combined towards the end. Or how about...etc...
Hire me Channel 4, I have tonnes of great ideas.

Bad news - Big Brother might be staying at Elstree (depends which websites you believe the most)

Quote:
Channel 4 has signed a deal to use Elstree Film and Television Studios to stage the Endemol UK production for another two years and Big Brother 5 will "definitely" be returning to Borehamwood next year.

"Beyond that, when the contract is up it will be looked at again", said a spokesman for Channel 4.

Back at the launch for this year's show, Big Brother Executive Producer Gigi Eligoloff said: "Elstree has been fantastic for the team, we love the studio and the house. We are planning on staying as we would like the continuity."

I've added a poll to this thread to canvas opinion:

What changes do you want most for Big Brother 5?

Arrow New house (and location)
Would a move from Elstree benefit the show.

Arrow Head of House format (as in BB USA, but with public vote)
A weekly Head of House is selected through a task. It is then up to them to nominate.

Arrow Sin Bin Punishments (Africa)
Misbehaving housemates are sent to a special room to complete a forfeit.

Arrow Two houses merging into one (Australia)
The Aussie series began with 14 housemates split between 2 "poor" houses, which after around a month were merged into one "rich" house.

Arrow Better Tasks
In comparison to BB USA, our tasks are very poor - especially the Saturday Challenge. However, they are probably on a par with most other versions of Big Brother.

Arrow Extended run
12 housemates into nine weeks - do we need longer to get to know them, especially before the first eviction?

Arrow An original twist
Most of the UK twists have all been done elsewhere (although I think the Reward Room was an original concept). Is it time the UK producers had their own ideas?

We haven't really discussed possibilities other than the Head of House.

The two house format used in Australia was met with a mixed reaction. They began with 2 houses, with 1 person in the first house and 5 in the second. Throughout the first week housemates were added until their were 7 in each house (but only 6 beds). Also, both houses had no kitchen or bathroom - they had to use a BBQ and outdoor shower.

Nominations take place in each house, with housemates from both houses facing the public vote, but only one is evicted each week.

After around a month, the houses were merged with new features revealed, such as the kitchen, pool and bathroom.

Another change made this year in Australia was that all cameras were hidden from view - therefore the only cameras were those behind the two-way mirrors, so housemates didn't know if they were being filmed.

PS: Does anyone have any new on BB: The Experiment. It was supposed to begin filming last week but I've read contradicting reports that suggest it has been axed.

Some news on The Experiment.

The official site reports filming of Teen Big Brother began on 30 July and will continue for the next 10 days. Channel 4 will screen it in early 2004.

Re: The Veto

I was trying to think how this might work as with a public vote, I think the nominations, veto and use of the veto would need to be done in the same day so it's clear who is up for eviction.

Therefore, if the Head of House competition is on a Saturday, I'd have the HoH nominate two housemates for eviction in the diary room around noon on Monday.

On Monday afternoon the other housemates would compete for the veto - not knowing if they are nominated. The veto holder would then be called to the diary room and privately informed of the nominees. They can then decide if and who they want to save from facing eviction, but are not permitted to reveal the nominees.

Later on Monday the Head of House would be called to make a third nomination - anyone but the veto holder - not knowing if the veto had been used.

This means by Monday evening the nominees are known for broadcast in the Tuesday night show.

At some point on Tuesday the nominations would be announced to the housemates.
