As to littlesmegger blaming the person who was attacked, shunned and insulted - good god; do you also say things like, "she's asking for it" when you see a lady in a short skirt?

Get a clue, for god's sake.

Now that's going completely in the opposite direction. They're all to blame in their own way, but she really did use it to her advantage and get TV time out of it. Don't try and make her look like the innocent party when it comes to tactics, she knew what she was doing, and not only did she win the the show as a result, but she ended up famous and pay worthy in the UK doing it.

Channel 4 were guilty for what happened at the time, and wanted to make things all sunshine and roses by getting it so people backed her to win in the edit. People complain about it occuring for normal un-controversial housemates, why is it any different for blessed Shilpa to be accused with Channel 4 of the same thing?

No, they're not "all to blame in their own way". That's rubbish.

Action > consequence.

BUT FOR the actions of the three antagonists, Shilpa wouldn't have been upset/cried/garnered sympathy/publicity.

Whatever the outcome there were only three people to blame - and they were blamed.

The wider issue about over-cautious producers in subsequent years or anything else that stemmed from it is absolutely irrelevant, and not anything that can be attributed to Shilpa Shetti.

Now, to be clear, I have no particular interest in the lady. Zero. Not a jot.

Not a fan of Bollywood, and I couldn't care less how much work she does or doesn't get in the UK or elsewhere. I'm entirely ambivalent towards her.

But all this "blessed Shilpa" stuff you're saying, with a heavy inference that she's engineered a positive outcome for herself... what the hell is all that about?

You do see right from wrong, don't you?

I do, and for 2 of the three accused housemates, there was racism involved [Jo and Danielle]. I just genuinely think the way all the blame was put on Jade via the press, when in reality she was the least likely to be deliberatly 'racist', was wrong and uncalled for. The fact that all the other two had to do was flutter their eyelids in the next days papers, and Goody had weeks and months of upset and having to clear her name, was double standards.

Only then for the press to go turncoat and get in her good books the second she was terminally ill.

Well on the point of who was "most to blame" I probably agree with you.

But Jade sold papers. She sold more than posh spice. She made a lot of money out of it, so if she had a nest-egg to protect she should have distanced herself from the arguments.

But she didn't, and that was that.

Yep - the papers were all over her in death as well as life - but that's not something you can visit on an innocent party; and to go back a bit, you were largely dismissing the whole attack on Shilpa and blaming events on her.

Hence my somewhat forceful rebuttal.

ditto

I think also the fact that Jade was a figurehead of Big Brother helped stem the press. I'm not excusing anything but the problem is Jade was a bit of a loudmouth whereas the other two just used to snigger and abuse Shilpa behind her back. So of course, ultimately, Jade will get the most blame. But in hindsight, it's irrelevant, you only had to watch to see the bullying going on.

I have to lol a bit at you saying "it happened because they were bored because there wasn't enough to do", Brekkie. That argument doesn't work when teenagers who hang around on streets commit crimes - so why would it be a legitimate excuse for bad behaviour on the BB house?

Oh yeah - I'm not excusing their behaviour at all.

What I'm saying is producers got lazy and fell too much into the trap of just letting the HMs get on with things, meaning things like this snowballed because they weren't distracted by "the game" - and perhaps it snowballed so much on the outside world because the viewers weren't distracted by the game either. Really though the producers main mistakes were not throwing the three girls out. It may have been deemed an over-reaction by some at the time, but in the long run I think all parties would have benefited if that had happened.

Yeah I saw most of it - I enjoyed it more than the actual BB show tbh! The first 3 series of BB were deffo the best.

I agree, it was a very good 'warts and all' programme.

The Producer's confession that returning 'Thikki' Grahame to the house was one of the worst mistakes they'd made was very honest! Perhaps if they'd 'fessed up shortly afterwards, instead of waiting four years, then they might have retained some of the viewers' trust.

Unlike others at the time I didn't have a problem with Big Brother putting a HM back in the house as Davina had in fact alluded to the possibility during the first eviction (though we now know it wasn't decided upon until later in the series), and of course it had been done before and the next logical step was to put one back in with the chance of winning. It was something that was always discussed as a possibility with Big Brother - and I don't think BB really suffered for it, though Nikki certainly did.

But the whole point of evicting someone is they are evicted for good - not evicted with the chance of going back 3 weeks later. Personally if I really wanted to get rid of a housemate I would think twice about voting if I thought they wouldnt leave for good.

Indeed, Jez.

The Producers accepted in the documentary last night that they lost the confidence of the viewers by making decisions themselves about evictees/returnees. It essentially destroyed the mantra 'You Decide' in one fell swoop!

I certainly became less of a 'fan' and more of a critic following that incident.

Later, the whole unconnected scandal of phone competition scams helped to make interactive TV voting appear murky, devious and less than honest.

Nikki was really marmite, wasn't she.

I loved her initially. Yes, she was petulant and immature and full-on, but she tickled me, and I really enjoyed some of her antics.

But she had the chance to go out and hear what people found amusing about her - and when she returned she tried too hard to recreate it. It was forced and terrible and I couldn't stand it.

I tell you what though - I *adored* Nadia.

I have to agree with you again, Gav. Nadia was a deserving winner: I shed a tear or two that night!

That's twice in one night that I've agreed with you: a previously unheard of event!

I must admit I also shed a couple of tears when Nadia won, love her! Laughing

Not sure if I like the idea of the housemates being released to the press before hand, including the fact they will all be on BBLB tomorrow at 6pm. Ruins the chances for first impressions of each other when they meet inside the house.
