On BBLB tonight, an ode to Bob Righter:

"All the housemates evicted - and the death of Big Brother,
It might be that Bob must move back in with his mother
But fear not dear Bob, we'll keep you alive,
Big Brother will be back... on the other side."

As subtle as a brick.

Oh dear, it's one thing to flog a dead horse when you're contracted to do so. It's quite another to buy the bag of bones and try to play a tune on them. Confused

Is that even legal?

Would have preferred Coolio to go - somebody really needs to tell him he's only making up the numbers and isn't in there as he's the obvious winner! He got beaten by Ulrika Johnson FFS!

So, it's Saturday and the sun is shining. The perfect day for me to stay indoors and watch last nights Big Brother episodes while simultaneously watching this mornings repeats, comparing them and making notes.

Some obvious things like swearing was edited on the repeat. This was done by either removing the swear word or the whole sentence from the audio track or in some cases by cutting out the swear word or sentence from the audio and video too. The second option was quite clever because they sometimes managed to remove a small chunk of video and audio without effecting the background music. Other times they would remove a swear word but keep the timing correct by showing a random reaction shot from someone else. Most of the time, a casual viewer wouldn't spot the edit. The only time it was slightly more obvious was during the 'best bits' packages, although the packages themselves were edited well enough, the reaction box on the bottom right of the picture was not edited at all, so the edits were easy to spot be looking at this.

Another obvious edit and a technique I was already aware of was used whenever there was flash photography on screen, the video on the repeat faded in to each frame so that there was not such a sudden flash on the screen.

One of Davina McCall's links was edited, coming out of a VT she spoke of a train entering a tunnel (she was referring to a penis entering a vagina). This was removed completely and just the second part of the link was used on the T4 repeat. I wouldn't have noticed if I had only seen the repeat.

A whole clip from a previous serious was cut from the repeat, even on last nights broadcast it was heavily bleeped.

The strangest edit that I noticed was when Davina McCall was questioning Nadia, and she said "You loved bitching, you still love a bit of a bitch. Have a look at this". For the repeat, this was changed to "You loved bitching, you still love a bit. Have a look at this". They kept the word bitching but removed the word bitch. This seems stranger still when you consider that the VT she was introducing with that link not only contained the word 'bitch' but was also backed by Elton John's 'The Bitch is Back'.

Interesting - and odd about the 'bitch' edit, although I suspect somebody somewhere deems the word 'bitching' less offensive than the word 'bitch' (in the same way 'bulls**t' is less offensive than merely 's**t'!).

I remember way back in a 2002 episode the highlights show contained Jonny telling a joke in its entirety, and the punchline (also used several times during the joke itself) was something like 'None of your f***ing business'). You may know the joke I mean - the 'what's in the bag?' one. The morning repeat substituted every time he said that line for something totally different like 'Never you mind', obviously said by Jonny at some other point in the show or scene. Interesting they didn't just bleep or silence the 'f' word and re-edited the whole clip, although that many 'jump-cuts' would have been messy.

That's what I assumed, until 'The Bitch is Back' started playing. Maybe the word 'bitch' is less offensive if it comes out of the mouth of Elton John. The rules seem quite complicated.

Another one I spotted on Friday's show/Saturday's repeat was a scene where Victor was watching Makosi showering. The exchange went like this...

Victor: Thanks for the show.
Makosi: Thank you for coming.
Victor: I got my moneys worth.
Makosi laughs.

The edited version on Saturday morning removed the line "I got my moneys worth" but left in Makosi laughing at it. I can not even begin to guess at why this was edited. I only remembered this one because Big Brother's Little Brother showed the scene this morning and left the line in.

In other Big Brother news, I notice that Nadia has not appeared on Big Brother's Big Mouth or Big Brother's Little Brother as is the norm when people leave the main show.
