I think Eugene's decision will actually end up costing him £150,000.

Wouldn't he lose out on either £50,000 or £100,000? If he wins, he will walk away wth £100K, £100,000 less than he could have potentially, whereas if he doesn't he's lost out on only £50K?

I think that the point that Brekkie Boy is trying to make is that if Eugene had refused the £50k he would be almost assured of winning overall (therefore winning £200k). By taking the £50k, he is reducing his chances of winning by appearing to be greedy and the prize fund is reduced, therefore in total he would be losing out on £150k.

If Eugene had not taken the money and then gone on to win, he would have won £200k (as the prize doubled if he left the money). If he had lost he would have had nothing.
If he wins now he wins £100k. (£50k he has already plus the £50k that is left)
If he doesn't win he gets £50k.

So the maximum difference between taking the money now and not winning (£50k), and not taking the money and then winning (£200k) is £150k isn't it? Or have I missed something (and I probably have!)

Yes - though you have to remember that the housemates are far less clued up about their popularity in the outside world, than us in the outside world are!

If you are not convinced you are going to win (and Eugene may not have been) then it makes sense, within what you know, to guarantee £50k...

I think all the factors that come into consideration make it such a brilliant twist. I still don't know what I would have done.

Eugene's assumption was that he would take the money and leave immediately - which was exactly what he said to Big Brother. I'm not sure he considered that he would be elligable to go on to win the show at all.

Anthony showed his annoyance at the prize fund being lowered. No doubt due to his confidence that the crown will be his.

I would have taken the money - no question about it. 50K will go a long way for someone who has quit their job to undertake this experience. At the very least it's a downpayment on a house - or a big chunk of an exisiting mortgage.

Good for Eugene. I bet Makosi was spitting with jealousy as she is usually the first to dive to the diary room when a volunteer is called.

Ha!

Craig was right. She really is a bitch.

According to today's Sun, Makosi is an actress paid for to the tune of £600 by Endemol. Not sure what relevance this has, unless she actually is a mole?

She's signed up to the Envenio agency and apparently the boss of the agency sent her details of the Big Brother auditions but they maintain that the £600 was unrelated.

I loved Eugene's reacion after seeing the piles of money:

'I appear to have made a schoolboy error' Laughing I think that has to be one of the best twists in reality TV in the UK though. You could see it was eating up Eugene inside.

Poor Eugene. The BB site says he spent most of last night staring into space thinking of his decision. Poor guy.

Erm, with £50,000 (at least) waiting for him in a couple of days, "poor" is the very last thing he is.

Poor Anthony. He had to entertain himself last night when Craig was wrongly evicted.

Now the knackered show we've called BB6 is limping breathlessly towards the final, does anyone have the voting statistics for this year? as i've just read on Digital Spy the voting turn-out for this series has been the lowest ever. Very Happy
