So Big Brother reaches the unlucky thirteenth series, although most would agree it probably had most of its bad luck during a certain fifth celebrity series. Brian Dowling and Emma Willis return to host the main show and the sister show 'Bit on the Side', as Big Brother begins its second main series on Channel 5, after two celebrity versions and one main series in the past year.

This series has the added bonus of not being scheduled to start right after the celebrity version, but if that'll make any difference nowadays is yet to be known. The basic new bland eye template continues with a horrifying disco style added to it that makes it look more cheaper than ever.

Will this thread pass the record for lowest pages in a thread for a Big Brother series of 4 pages for the 2012 celebrity series? We wait in eager anticipation.

I'd be surprised if there wasn't an unlucky number 13 theme to it this year (Not dissimilar to Makosi in BB6).

Jamie East (from Big Brother's bit on the side) has been filming something for 4 months prior to launch, something not done in BBUK history. I'm guessing in depth interviews following housemates prior to entry. For me, BBUK this year needs to be something innovative, its gotten so predictable in recent years (with the only shock being Aaron's win in BB12), drastic changes to the house and actual production of the show would help, the TOWIE-esque highlight shows weren't great.

I think it may be to do with Channel 5 not continuing the numbering of series after Channel 4's run. I don't think they called it Big Brother 12 last year.

They probably think it would draw attention to its longevity and appear old in comparison to other shows.

That's what I was thinking. And more, besides.

Oh well, that proves my point even more. They never went by the numbering system in the show so that's probably why they didn't do an unlucky 13 theme.

I'm surprised this programme is still going . Channel 5 should have left it in it's grave.

Why? Channel 5/Northern & Shell is a business and they saw the business potential still left in the Big Brother brand format for a number of it's different outlets.

It's up to you whether or not you want to watch it.

Do we need this comment every time Big Brother is mentioned? It's so boring. I mean, it's fine to think it, and it's fine to discuss it in a bit more details but you've said one line that we've heard thousands of time.

Sad news ... BB10 (2009 series) housemate Sophia Brown has died. Not exactly related to BB13 I know, and although I
haven't really watched much of Big Brother at all for the last few years, but it's still tragic at such a young age.

Sun - Big Brother contestant Sophia Brown dies aged 30.

The 2009 one was the first series I didn't watch, but I did see the first week and it was due to her being evicted that I stopped watching. An incredibly annoying and aggressive woman but nevertheless a great housemate and a sad loss. It will be interesting to see if Channel 5 are willing to dedicate the launch show to someone from the Channel 4 era.

Just going back to the impending series, I saw the advert the other day and its quite impressive but I'm not sure its very 'Big Brother'. I admire Channel 5 for changing the strategy, but they could have done it a bit differently imo. Love the logo though.
