Talking of guesthosts saw this week Dannii Minogue was filling in for Gaby as early as Feb 1993. I thought she'd come on board much later when Mark Little was hosting. In the early days they seemed to have regular stand ins for Gaby like Dani Behr but often guest hosts doing just a week for Chris.
Dani Behr didn't become a regular stand-in until long after Evans left, and most of her appearances were in two lengthy chunks in 1995 when Gaby was filming Survival. Minogue's first appearance in 1993 didn't lead to anything for many years, she was just one of many stand-ins for Gaby in the first eighteen months or so, a la Kim Wilde, Rosemarie Ford, Carol Smillie and many others.
Yes obviously hosted with Orf but don't think she hosted with a non-regular BB presenter once Johnny came on board.

Denise hosted with Melanie Sykes one morning, with Johnny on the OB at an airport, about to catch a flight to a football match.
I watched the Big breakfast from mid 98 until it ended. Yes Johnny was huge shoes to fill but the re-launch in 2001 was played around with so much at the start of that year it wasn't given the time to settle. Firstly I would've just had Paul and Amanda hosting, not Donna. When Paul left Richard Bacon hi-jacked the show, however there are obvious moments when both him and Mike were presenting that Amanda was by far the most experienced presenter. Mike was funny but based all his humour on insulting people which wears thin after a while. Ironically after it was announced the show would end and especially in early 2002 Amanda and Richard relaxed into the role a-lot more and towards the end some of the shows were matching that of previous era's. It seems like channel 4 gave up on it after Lisa left. Denise second stint was pointless. Would'be been better to get a new female presenter in who would've then stayed after JV left, leaving some consistancy. If only C4 new how bad RI:SE was going to be, maybe they would've made more of an effort with the Breckie in its dieing days.
Yes. I read about it on Off the telly. After it was announced it was being axed, a new character arrived, called "Jack Michaelson". Probably coincidental, that it was a similar name to the CEO of Channel 4, Michael Jackson, who Phil Redmond seemed to see as responsible for the shows demise.
But the thing is, in the case of the big breakfast, was it more a case of Channel 4 changed, and TBB didn't fit the mix, a suggestion labelled about the demise of Brookie?
Management changes and also C4 became much more successful in primetime thanks to Big Brother and some other break out hits of the time so as pointed out earlier in the thread The Big Breakfast was making less of a contribution to the coffers. I completely agree with what chris30 said about them not giving the 2001 revamp enough of a chance as though not without it's issues it did seem to drag the show into the 21st century and keep the spirit of the show much more successfully than the 1996 revamp did. It just had the wrong combination of hosts.
RI:SE 1.0 was awful but on the otherhand somewhat ahead of it's time too - arguable that Good Morning Britain shares more similarities with that than it does with GMTV.
Daybreak Mk1 made some of the same mistakes as Rise did, trying to add gimmicks to what should be straight forward items, not quite as bad as the ‘6 pack of news’ though.
It is funny though when you consider how long shows stick around for these days that the whole thing with about half a dozen different relaunches didn’t even last 10 years.
