The Big Breakfast

The Bigger Breakfast's summer run in 1997 also had a short set of titles, which I think featured a bit of the white house at the end. Sure this'll be knocking around on YouTube somewhere.

On a related theme, I've never seen this promo before...

A few months a go I managed to be put in contact with the owner of Lock Keepers Cottages who told me some interesting things about the house and the rumour about the show coming back in 2012 was true but the one of the reasons why it didn't happen was due to budget and funding. Old Ford Lock was even secured to do an anniversary show from there.

I received an e-mail from the owner of the house this week who tells me that the long term future of the house is under threat. This is what he says:

"When we talked i mentioned to you that there was a threat to the house from a very large development, opposite the house on the other side of the river lea.
The owners of the development have now applied for planning permission to construct a very blunt pair of blocks right up to the edge of the canal.
this would affect so badly, we would have to consider our position living at the house.
As you know we have always tried to preserve as much of the Big breakfast as we possibly can. the stage, the lawns, the brickwork, palm trees, and a lot more besides.
I cannot speak for how any new owners of the house would act."

It doesn't sound too promising does it.

Give it ten years and it'll be knocked down for flats like everything else!

What a find.
What a shame he was only allowed to present a week of gold clips.

He did a week or two with Liza Tarbuck as well, I think when she was a guest host as well.

So Johnny and Denise had about two weeks off from the above clip? There's a clip on Youtube which mentions the Notting Hill Carnival with Johnny and Denise in the new living room.

They'd have been off until the September relaunch - 3 or 4 weeks off in the summer was the standard. I think that summer Josie D'Arby replaced Mel on The Bigger Breakfast so that she could host the main show, which from the May half term remained separate. Previously The Bigger Breakfast ran from 7am with the same presenters.

That news backdrop lasted longer than I remember then - about the only thing from the 1996 revamp to still be seen at that point, though I'm guessing the blue background was introduced when Johnny and Denise returned in September.
