Jasmine was my favourite newsreader, but then I wasn't particularly fond of Phil Gayle.

Apparently it was Richard Bacon who recommended Jasmine to his bosses and they took her on.

Yes...

Although I am not sure it is what actually got her the job...

When did they change the furniture and the red chair in those clips? Was it after Richard stepped in to help Lisa out?

Have I posted this recently? I have a feeling I have, but if not....

Richard Bacon - Brekkie.com Interview (2002)

Richard Bacon talks to Brekkie.com...

How would you describe your time at The Big Breakfast?
I enjoyed my time there overall a great deal. I worked on the show for three years, for the first two I was the OB presenter durung the time of Johnny / Kelly / Liza / Denise part 2.

I preferred that job to actually presenting in the House. I think I was better at it. In fact that is probably the best job I've ever had. I loved the freedom I had out on the road - when you're away from the house there's none breathing down your neck - you have total control. I also liked the fact that I'd have about 30 minutes between each piece to structure what I was going to do. I'm a big fan of being out in the real - broadcasting live from housing estates and peering into people's lives. I love the contributions of the public, which is something I've built into the XFM show. Most people who presented the obs over the years hated it - not me.

The show is also a f***ing brilliant learning curve - it has taught me a lot - mainly because it was always so hungry for new ideas all the time.

How successful do you feel you were presenting live from the house?
I presented in the house for the last year - I think I only really started to get it right for the last three months - which was a bit late. The rest of the time I was plauged by a bit of self doubt - which sprung mainly from the fact that I thought a certain part of the show shouldn't have been there - I may be talking about a person. That was Channel Four's decision. I think towards the end we did some good stuff on the show - Ben Rigdon the EP and some of the producers - like Dan - who works with me on XFM - were and are very good.

Where were you when you found out that The BB had been axed, and how did you feel?
We always knew it was going to be axed. Channel 4 had a problem with the show dating back about four years - it wasn't news.

Did you watch the very first edition of RI:SE? What do you think about it?
I didn't watch the first episode of RI:SE. I saw it at the end of the week and thought it was ****. A pointless, directionless vessel.

Truly hopeless, but the new look one will be better. Iain Lee is good, but the format will still be uninspiring. I doubt it will do very well.

Considering RI:SE's terrible ratings, do you think that Channel 4 was right to axe The BB?
They should probably have rested the show. I think it is the sort of thing that would have come back into fashion. Having said that, people had seen it and perhaps had had enough - after ten years it had the feeling of being in some ways very 90's. But with a re gig it could still work.

The Daily Mail reported that there is to be a Big Breakfast documentary. Are you aware of such a programme going ahead?
I don't know about a documentary. If they got the real inside story of Planet 24 it would be f***ing amazing. The Planet culture was great.

Do you think that The Big Breakfast could ever return?
I'm not sure if it would return. I think Channel Five should give it a go.

And finally, do you have a message for the readers of Brekkie.com, who are still upset at losing their favourite breakfast show?
A lot of the best people in the industry learnt their trade at The Big Breakfast. Loads of us who worked on it still work together and soon we'll have some projects up and running that flick the V's at all the other poor imitation **** that's on at the moment.

I've also found one of the games from Brekkie.com saved on Wayback Machine. It was a very crude version of Court With Your Pants down.

Sorry to go so far back in the thread, but regarding this:

I remember the first Bigger Breakfast in May half term week 1997. The full-length opening titles had a longer version of the brand new guitar theme (launched that day) which took a while to build and was never heard again

You are right regarding these titles, and as someone else said they were on Brekkie.com. I don't have the clip anymore but I have a feeling I've got the VHS somewhere . To be honest I have amnesia when it comes to Brekkie.com!

The titles were like the other house-less titles that are on YouTube, except they include the shots of the art deco house used in the 96 titles.

And then strangely when they returned to the house they dropped the shots of the house.

Did Brekkie.com ever have the fly-out closing sequence of the 1996 re-launch house? I know there were three versions of the opening titles back then.
