I love Richard Bacon, but his singing used to be atrocious!

This is the last time the Friday Song was performed in 2001. This is from the 21st September 2001. Was there a show the week before? Or was that when the Channel 4 News replaced the show?
Anyway, here is:
This is Sam Robson's second stint as guest host. It was also that week Neil and Christine Hamilton gained a regular spot as 'Love Doctors'

I wonder why they brought the Friday song back for a bit, then dropped it, then reinstated it again?

Was it dropped after 9/11 for a bit or before that?
The period between June and December 2001 was bizarre. It was quite unsettled while trying to hit its stride again, whilst also not really knowing if the writing was truly on the wall.
When I had Brekkie.com I carried out several interviews with people involved with the show around that time, from which I was told a lot of info that I was not allowed to use.
From one particular interview I gleaned that as early as April 2001 Channel 4 gave The Big Breakfast its contractual year's notice that the show would not be renewed. However, another of Planet 24's clauses said that in the event of this happening, they would be given the chance to produce another pilot. And as Planet were well within their right to put forward a reinvigorated Big Breakfast as a pilot, this meant the axe had not quite fallen on the old girl yet.
Around October 2001 it was rumoured that Chris Moyles was on board to host the pilot of Planet's new Big Breakfast, and most whispers around the industry suggested that this had saved the programme.
However, this actually never happened as they could not agree terms with Moyles. What happened instead was a seemingly rush job called B4, fronted by a load of unknowns, weighted towards showbiz news and lifestyle features. The pilot was filmed in the Planet 24 studios behind the house and was apparently awful. I would love to see a copy.
(B4 was apparently also the name of one of the other pilots submitted, I think by Endemol)

The Friday Song returned the week the living room was changed. Before returning to the original tune they tried it out to the tune of Camptown Races and I do like to be beside the seaside and it ran through out the summer until that last one i posted. This one is from the 7th September 2001 and then after 21st it was never seen again until the final show:

This info you weren't allowed to use... Can you share it now?

Well, it's all bo**ocks. Moyles did host the Planet 24 pilot, with Bacon, because he detailed how disastrous it was at at great length in his autobiography!
I suspect he just has.

A pilot was certainly made without Moyles, and the Moyles pilot was not submitted to Channel 4. I was lead to believe this was because Moyles couldn't come to terms on contract, but maybe this was because he or Planet weren't happy with the pilot.
