Here's some Tim Vincent covering The Crunch while Paul Ross fills in for Chris Evans...

That must be May 2000 as the song references the 2000th show.

I wondered that at the time. I guess she'd already decided to leave at this point as well.

What caused them to overrun so badly?

Yes! The first time it was taken off the air for an extended period was on St Patrick's Day 1993 when it was off for about ten minutes at 8am, and then when they came back to the house Evans put a plug back into the wall and pointed at a leprechaun they'd be playing around with for the show. I also remember when they did the 8.30 competition Evans asked the caller what C4 had done during the breakdown, and the caller said "they played some awful music".
The 1995 one is as you remember, except it was Mark Little rather than Cheggers. I vividly remember this, I seem to recall you could actually hear Gaby talking to Peter Smith down his earpiece. I remember listening to Chris Evans on Radio 1 (in those days I'd got a bit fed up of The Big Breakfast so I took any opportunity to listen to Evans during the ad breaks, the features I didn't like and so on, the idea of just stopping watching The Big Breakfast never occured to me) and people were phoning in to tell him they were showing clips of him, they did show a few archive clips in between the Clangers and the ad breaks. I remember they also did the news at 7.20, the C4 announcer linking straight into it, and then as you say at around 7.30 they did an extended news with proper reports, presumably taken off the Morning News. Then after that, it went on for about ten minutes, they were able to start the show.
I always used to like it when they did the show from outside the house, made it seem a bit special.
Following on from a comment in the GMB thread about how the BB used to move out into the front garden on warm summer mornings (the chairs and sofa and TV were brought out too) - it's reminded me of what happened in 1995 when there was, I think, a power cut at the house during the 7am news. Peter Smith was left stranded on air, then some filler was played until 7:30ish when Peter presented an extended news. I think the house got back on air at just before 7:50 with Gaby and Keith and the living room set moved outside. I think the show was forced off air a few times in its history, wasn't it? (Plus, wasn't there a flood in 2000, but the show still went ahead?)
