Nice find. I always found it odd that the logo on the titles ended in the wrong ratio to the main logo seen elsewhere.

Me too. It's something they eventually corrected with the 1996 revamp though of course initially the same logo was just recoloured blue. Also found it odd how the logo remained (in the right ratio) behind the main logo at the end of the titles.

And seems the show missed a trick by not releasing a range of clipboard merchandise!

L corresponds to 5 on a telephone keypad. After PhONE day, London used 0171 and 0181; London never had a two letter code to form the area code.

0151 is Liverpool's area code; the 5 came from Liverpool's "L".

Wow! That's brilliant! I haven't seen that since the day itself. Where did you find that?

It's from my own personal collection. I did try to upload the whole thing to Youtube but unfortunately it was blocked due to the opening titles of a Bewitched episode being on the end of my recording, so there is nothing I can do about it. Sorry.

020 for London didn't start until 2000, 0171 (01L1) was the dialing code for London in the 1990s (after PhONE day)

The point is, they didn't use their normal number, 0181 985 1111, they used 0171 512 5556. I was just wondering why this may have been, especially when they used their normal fax number, 0181 985 2222.

Oh Oh Oh... I know the answer to this! The titles were originally meant to finish when the logo was revealed under the dish, but it was felt there wasn't enough impact (ring any bells to critics of my mocks!) so they b*stardised it.

Is that a marketing term? Razz

I suppose this was rectified with the 3D animations.
I suppose the music for the original titles has the biggest impact.

I always found it odd that they filmed the titles complete with a mouldy cup of tea on the table, but then they pointed it out on the show at some stage.

We seem to have uncovered some weird clipboard fetish amongst members.

To take the edge off, stumbled across some clean 1992 titles and stings:

I think that's ripped from David Arnold's site...

That's a shame. I'm guessing there's no way it can be uploaded without the Bewitched clip? Anyway, great to see that. You got any other gems stashed away?

Is that because the logo on the titles is meant to look like it's bursting out from under that silver salver and cloche?

That's what I thought, it's supposed to look like that because it's filling the screen and bursting out of the card.

Watching back the very first edition of the programme, and I wondered when things started to change.

... such as the news at 20 minute intervals, the use of cartoon/children's programmes during the first part.
It strikes me that it was much more family orientated for the first part, and then branched out to the interviews later on in the show.

The news changed to on the half hour with the 1996 revamp. It moved about a bit in 1997 as they undid things but ultimately it settled back to 3 minute bulletins every half hour - though after Phil Gayle left they did experiment with bulletins every 15 minutes branded "BBHQ - Big Breakfast Headlines Quarterly", but it didn't last long and I think was gone by the time Jasmine Lowson was the regular newsreader.

Not quite sure when the cartoon went but the first part of The Crunch eventually moved to around 7.10am. The cartoons returned for a brief period in 1997 when it was rebranded as Alien Alarm and essentially took the first half hour of the show.
