The 2001 relaunch was 22nd January, Paul Tonkinson was sacked on 6th April, and the sofa went on 16th April. The graphics didn't change until the summer (June at the earliest).

Could this be the first day of the chairs in 2001?

Note they're re-using the old 1996 re-launch tv too.

Well spotted! I think that TV was resprayed from orange to silver for use on the Alien Alarm set. Also, the big flatscreen was moved to above the fireplace.

Didn't they have the two flat screens for the relaunch behind the sofa & above the fireplace?

Just the one from what I remember. It stated off behind the sofa, and was then put above the fireplace as the revamp was un-done.

Fanoftv is correct, there are two screens. I'm watching my copy of the re-launch show now and there's a plasma behind the sofa and another one above the fireplace.

When the re-launch was undone the screen above the fireplace was altered to look like a photo frame.

I always wished they'd kept the 2001 squares design on the living room wall, and just painted it more breakfasty colours.

The opening titles & introduction from the second show of the 2001 re-launch which i also found on the same tape as the 2001 re-launch show which is also on youtube kindly uploaded by another user.

This is also the first show to feature Lola Lasagne!

And the closing titles from the same show. These end credits featured clips from the days show in between the credits:

Rare footage there of Donna Air actually making a funny joke. Those titles were great as was the theme (still feels quite modern today), but don't know what they were thinking with the logo. Although the "bb" one was OK, the full text logo just looked awful and I'm sure the titles could have been tweaked to include a small version of the traditional logo instead.

Did like the idea for the end credits, but the text would have been better on the footage rather than the animations.

I agree about the music - it still feels modern by today's standards. Despise the titles though - yuck!

I'm finding lots of BB material from the 2001 era on VHS recently.

This treat is a Friday song using another tune from the original. The tune they're singing along to here is to Camptown Races.

The Friday song returned the week before this one with the tune to "Oh I Do Like To Be Beside the Seaside" the week after they used this tune then the week after that they returned to the original song "Singing Wakey, Wakey, Wakey Rise and Shine"

I've also got the first Friday song mentioned before this song somewhere on VHS which i'm also trying to locate at the moment.

The Donna Air joke was highly likely to have been scripted. The titles were slick but too dark. A brighter/warmer palette would have worked better. There's no way the traditional logo could have worked alongside the 'b' design.

One thing those Relaunch Day 2 clips prove is that Amanda was by far the most competent presenter out of the three, but unfortunately she was less comfortable as the show returned to its old style.

The 2001 relaunch really should have had more time to breathe, but I think it was stillborn when they decided to relaunch using a watered down Johnny Vaughan clone as host. If they were going to go slick and trendy, they really should have had a good looking, likable guy who could host alongside Amanda.

And while we're at it, looking back at later eps, how awful was Lisa Rogers at hosting the show! At the time I thought she was pretty good but it just shows how time can change everything.

I thought the same about Mike McClean in that clip above - used to think he was one of the best things about the shows in it's dying days (and perhaps on the OB he was), but he looks completely lost in that clip above - and as you say Amanda is having to be something she wasn't intended to be. I never really understood why they took a presenter from what I assume was a fairly middle of the road Irish breakfast show which had more in common with GMTV than The Big Breakfast.
