On Tuesday, being a sad sort of a chap, I thought I would give Big Box Bingo a whirl. It's on Channel 157 at 8pm live, Tuesday evenings.
After receiving the bingo tickets through the post, I activated all six. However, I didn't actually watch the programme.
Yesterday ( Wednesday ) I received a phone call from a friendly chap saying I had won!
My heart beating when he told me.. " Congratulations, you have won....one hundred and seventy five pounds " Now, whilst I cannot really afford early retirement with this unexpected win, I was nevertheless happy and didnt even have to put a pen or a marker thing on any of my tickets, All recorded rather cleverly somehow in their technology with my activation numbers on the tickets.
However what really surprised me was when I asked where the programme was transmitted from, the nice man from Big Box Bingo replied " Lithuania! " which shocked me more than me winning!!
Anyone any ideas if any other UK programmes are transmitted from other European broadcasting centres?
I can only presume it is from Lithuania as the general overheads are lower???
Anyhow, I await my cheque arrival through the post tomorrow. Then I have to have my pic taken with it and email to B.B.Bingo to be put in their winners section.
Hmmmm - thought there would be a downside to winning a fortune!

The fist and only series of That's the Question with Sarah Cawood on Challenge was made in Holland as was the first US series of this show. They used british ex-pats.

Most obvious ones off the top of me head - Five/Challenge TV filmed Fort Boyard at err.. Fort Boyard on the west coast of France. Challenge even used a French post-production house to edit the show, before sending the tapes back to Blighty.

Ages ago Channel 4 transmitted a show called Manhattan Cable, which aired footage from New York cable television. Laurie Pike's links for UK viewers were filmed and the whole show was on line edited in America.

Channel 4 used 9Live facilities in Munich when they first experiemented with the now dreaded call-tv format, instead of the 10 min promo loop on E4 one December a few years back.

I also remember reading that a fair percentage of the Call-tv channels used facilities in Eastern Europe (as it was cheaper) before the genre became hated and grubby.
