The BBC is a massive organisation spanning the world from what I can see. They can be broadly separated into these catergories : -

Arrow BBC Television

That's all of the BBC channels you see in the UK (BBC 1, 2, 3, 4, News 24 etc) and the BBC channels that are, strictly speaking only available abroad like BBC World, BBC America, BBC Food et al.

Arrow BBC Radio

That covers the national radio output (BBC Radio 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5) which can be received on a normal radio set together with the digital stations such as 1Xtra, 5 Live Sports Extra, BBC 6 Music et al. Also included is their worldwide radio station the BBC World Service.

Arrow BBC Newsgathering

A network of reporters around the world who erm...gather news and do reporting for the BBC. Nearly every country has a BBC correspondent I believe.

Broadcast bits aside, they also have these others as well...

Arrow BBC Broadcast & Resources

That covers the production and OB facilities that they use and hire out together with the costume stores, studios and post production.

Arrow BBC Worldwide

Their marketing arm. Responsible for those videos of the Teletubbies that are played ad nauseum in nurseries, playschools and the Early Learning Centre together with the merchandise as well like the OFAH videos and BBC mugs.

Others I have heard of but do not know what they do...

Arrow BBC Monitoring

Arrow BBC Technology

Arrow BBC Research & Development

Also I'm sure there are many that I have missed out. Feel free to add or correct some of the statements.

Thanks for that, I know that the Beeb is the largest newsgathering org in the world... they should publish this fact more a la sky news 'we reach 80 million people' style on their titles... I think the Americans would give them more credibility (being so obsessed with size et al)

I love it...all we need now is someone to say they were the last minute news 24 overnight presenter and are taking a high profile job at Sky News. Laughing Oohhh, deja vu.

Well, not wishing to boast ...

I also have a briefcase of highly important documentation about a Sky News relaunch.

I'll leave the case under the bin which is next to platform 3 at Swindon station. First one there gets the CD with all the original artwork on it.

GO!

What next? An aerial map of your house and where BBC Bristol is? Please...it'd really make my day. And do you have any BBC News music or am I not supposed to ask you for that?

Well, I'm going on holiday to the moon with Neil Armstrong and Greg Dyke. The space rocket has 24 hour ntl broadband access. Quite nifty I thought. We're also dropping off the Ison III satellite to join the Ison I and Ison II fleet located at 666°W.

Put it this way, the BBC will be a hell of a lot bigger and better when I get my job there!
