What do you see at Breakfast?!?!

Do all the BBC regional bulletins at breakfast come from their main studio except South Today and Reporting Scotland?

Leeds certainly doesn't come from their main studio, neither does Manchester AFAIK

NWT comes from their awful self-op studio, used at Breakfasts and some weekends, as they have the awful computetrised background, you hear tons of thumps when they opt-out (The same also happens at Leeds apparently), but I think the benfit of the self-op studio is that the chair seems to be more comfier than the one in the proper NWT studio.

Though I remember this year they used the proper NWT studio at Breakfast, but I think this was only because they were covering a rather serious story, I think it was at the time when a major Poilice officer from Greater Manchester Police got shot by an Asylum Seeker. But I much prefer the proper studio, you'd think they'd have more than one studio there, as if you have seen BBC Manchester it is huge.

A very close-up shot of the presenter in front of the window. Not a glimpse of the coffee table.

See the bottom of this page: http://www.bbcmidlands.plus.com/bbceastmidlandsnews.html
The image on the right is from a Breakfast bulletin.

That one, however's not a bad example. It's worse when the presenter is slouched on the chair like in the similar picture from the 2001 look.

Not anymore they don't...it seems that from Monday they've been using the proper studio, so I assume that's permanent and the self-op is no more Very Happy

Lots of different angles which is a nice refreshing change, and the whole thing starts with a short sting (*27) or the short titles (*55).

I've always thought it desperately unfair that Look East (Cambridge) gets a nice big sized "window" (as big as Norwich's - all the way to the floor), considering that it is only an opt-out, not a main service.

As such, the Cambridge studio is on-air for less than 20 minutes per day (no more than 10mins within the 1830 edition; 6-7ish minutes for the 2225 edition - and not used at all at weekends).

I say it's unfair because some English regions have poxy little windows (that start above the railing) in their main studio. Midlands Today was (initially) the worst - two poxy little widescreen plasmas, sideways, side-by-side, with a "window frame" (that included a central vertical bar to cover the seam).

Of course, Look North (Hull)'s window (and indeed their whole studio) is pathetically small - but we all know it's temporary, so c'est la vie . But that fact doesn't do anything to prevent the studio being very aesthetically displeasing, for as long as it is used.

As well as Hull, Look North Leeds's window is a bit poor and is four screens next to each other rather than one big screen. The screen in the soft set which was installed later is actually better

I think that very few regions were actually improved by the corporate look, and a few of them really went downhill. Spotlight suffered pretty badly IMHO, as their previous look was basically a slicker version of the corporate one...

Yes Spotlight did go downhill set wise with the corporate look. Also Look North lost an amazing desk!

It may not have changed for the better, but Spotlight for me remains the best BBC regional news set of the lot, well done to them for making the effort despite the constrains of the BBC News branding.

I miss the old Look North Newcastle theme tune - it had been remixed already and had a wonderfully classy set of titles and music (especially the 6.30 version). It could have easily been adapted into corporateism as it had fading place names (could be changed to decoding) and the theme would have worked with the dancier music. silly London people.

So is Yorks & Lincs the only region to self-op breakfast bullys now? Will the new studios at Leeds and Hull have a self-op studio?

Do any other regions have anything like what Midlands Today has at breakfast, the on screen weather and travel information?
