I'm glad to see that, since they went generic, the BBC's regional news programmes have eventually (in most cases) moved away from their original near-identical studios. Obviously, however, the regions (with the exception on LDN and South Today) no longer fit in with the national news - South East Today's set is even still mustard yellow.
So I was wondering what people think are the best and worst BBC regional studios at the moment, but also what you reckon is in the pipeline.
Personally, my favourites at the moment are Points West and South Today. Points West is obviously in the old style, but I just think it's by far the best example of the old generic look put into practice and still looks good - nice sidebars, good use of red panels, and a background image with a bit of colour in it. I like South Today's studio because it's nicely integrated with the national set, and still includes images from around the region.
My least favourite is Spotlight, as I think it just looks cheap - far too much beige, and the red panels and background image don't even go down to the floor.
As for the future, I don't think all programmes will end up looking like South Today. Instead, I reckon they'll be free to put together the elements (projection screen, white desk, red glass panels) in whichever ways they choose. Not sure about the timescale though...
