I like the Loreal ads - because i'm worth it I hate the debt ads as I can't see how getting into further debt is an improvement - if we cant afford to live we all need to be paid more
Fave ads? Well the Boddingtons ones were all superb ("Do you want a flake in that love?" "'Ere Tarquell, are your trolleys on t'wrong way round?" etc etc) The one that still makes me chortle is the Fosters one with the Japanese guy with the robot, who comes home to find the robot in bed with the hoover. And the microwave. Genius!
I absolutely hate (and think the powers that be should ban) all toy adverts. Children watch them on Saturday mornings, see all the things that they want which "only cost £59.99", and think it's quite reasonable to expect their parents to buy them. These adverts are seducing our children!!!!!!!!!
(PS If like me you're a 70s/80s child who remembers the old "parents making you watch Swop Shop instead of Tiswas" scenario, and always assumed it was due to programme content, think on. Swop Shop didn't have commercial breaks advertising expensive toys. Mind you, in our day, toys weren't as expensive as they are now, you could buy Star Wars figures for 99p.........OK, I'll shut up....)
I like a wide range of ads, but does anyone remember those Heinz ads from 1999, with this African group (Ladysmith) providing the backing vocals? I remember reading a newspaper article about it, the group had released a "Best Of..." collection featuring the song from these particular ads, and the album sold 1m copies!
On a side note though - I absolutely
hate
those Debt Free Direct ads, featuring that guy staring into the camera. Ergh.
Fave of mine has to be the fire advert with the dog, cat and mouse. The dog walks in sits in front of the fire then the cat walks in and gives the boxer dog a peck on the cheek. Then in walks the mouse to sit at the fire and the cat leans down to the mouse's lips and gives the thing a peck on the cheek. The music to the advert was I think was the Shirelles and love you tomorrow. Very funny advert and quite cute as well.
Worst has to be that Listerine advert or perhaps any advert to do with banks as they are so so boring.
Anything with the words Loan, Debt, Mortgage, or Insurance I hate (except the current Privelage ad and the eSure ads with the fella dressed up as a woman)
"Hi! Barry Scott here! Do you have a problem with crap kitchen cleaners? Then try Cillit Bang"
"Ding Ding D-D-Ding Ding D Bah bomp bah dah bomp bomp boooommmmm! Buy the crazy frog from Jamster! Only £50, and we'll keep charging you until you change your sim card!" Aaarrggghhhhh!!!!!!! Still, the "hidden" charges are a suitable punishment for anyone who bought the Crazy Frog anyway.
