I think the key problem here is that everyone in this thread will probably only watch one or two regional news programmes on a regular basis. I can see ...*counts*... 7, I'm suppose to be able to see about 10, but I can't. I live in an overlap area you see! A big one at that.
So without having ever experienced the joys of North Tonight, UTV Live and Anglia News, I'm afraid I really make an accurate judgement.
Just a note, Gordon Burns contgratulated BBC Radio Cumbria and BBC Radio Merseyside for winning local radio stations of the year - or something like that.
Re: Granada News/Reports
The person talking about the morning travel news is quite right. I don't know why they even bother with it. However, the new image is looking ten times better than its previous incarnation. I agree it's a shame about James Cooper returning to just do sport - Lucy Meacock and him were a good combination. Oh and re Rachel Harrison, I'm told she's now at GMTV.
Re: Radio Merseyside's Awards
How Billy Butler managed to get an award for his programme ahead of the LFC/Alaves match - when he couldn't even pronounce the name of the home team - is incredible.

And a part of my last name appears in the opening titles.
What's your full surname then? I presume it's Hove that is in your name, not Brighton?!?!

No, it's just that no-one else lives in your region mate!
I feel sorry for people whose
main
/'intended' regions (let's forget overlaps for the time being) are anything other than:
BBC Yorkshire & Lincolnshire/Yorkshire ITV1
BBC South East/Meridian (south east) ITV1
BBC London/LWT-Carlton ITV1
BBC Midlands-BBC East Midlands/Carlton (Central) ITV1
Because those groups combined seem to make up about 90% of the TV Home population, leaving only the odd handful from each and every other region - they must feel so alone!
