For me it's not one particular ident but a toss up between two network identity schemes. this is how it should be done.

Sky Televsion '93 - Network Identity.

I like the LWT blinds & BBC2 1991-2001 idents

But for me Thames perhpas had the most imaginative & complex logo of all time. A skyline of London's most famous buildings at the time.

Obviously if they were still part of ITV they would update the skyline to include the London Eye & Guerkin

These two in particualr are my favourite

Shame the skyline has now gone:

Ah fantastic idents, my first experience of satellite tv, these idents were just awesome and the premium channels really felt like premium channels, makes today Sly's ident look piiss poor IMHO.

I just love the lighting, the way the idents formed on screen and the music that went into it, these idents would look fantastic in widescreen!

Yup as I said in my first post, i think those 1993 idents are most definitely the best ones. It's amazing how they haven't aged a bit. Except perhaps the Sky Sports one.

We hate the idea of Corporate branding on ITV yet I think it works well on Sky and it was amazing how those idents were totally different with different music and different graphics, yet were also at the same time exactly the same. It was basically the same music just performed differently and the graphics were altered to suit the channel, but the SKY part was always the same.

Pure brilliance. Much better than the crap that Sky show now IMHO.

A difficult decision, but the final set of Central cake idents remain technically and visually excellent.
I have always wondered how the cake idents would have developed if Carlton (and later itv) hadn't imposed their corporate presentation, especialy as Central's designers managed to create such stunning idents with much less capable hardware and software than is currently available:

Also, look at the Central News (west) titles from the same period:

And the ending:

Many thanks to tv-ark.

Incidentally, does anyone have a full-length version of the above Central News theme?

how can you think anything was better than the central cake!?

The best of all time. Simple, a rainbow, but also very imaginative.

Well Allan100, there's a perfectly obvious reason why the 1970's HTV antenna ident is better than the Central cake idents... an antenna is slightly more reflective of the medium of television than a cake... now if we were talking about Bakery idents then obviously the Central cake would win hands down, and up again, and down... that's it bitch... kneed that dough!

is it just me, or is getting back into work after the christmas break really, really difficult Sad
