Despite the fact that you couldn't actually read the credits and the credits looked stupid when no ECP was run.

Im interested to find out which you think was the best era of watching ITV. I am going for 99 - 2002. I dont know why but I liked the presentation of the hearts, with regional idents with the ITV1 logo and that brilliant Nightime Ident. Also the weekend video wall ident of LWT. I liked the ITV2 look with the red blue and yellow text blocks and idents. It was something about that look, and some of the best programmes was airing then. ITV had that warm feeling to it then. What do you think?

Interesting that you solely base the "Best era of ITV" on it's presentation!

I did like the hearts and think ITV missed alot of opportunities. The ECP was very acceptable to me - though the current one is more flexible and makes the credits easier to read, the promo is around half the size.

Programming wise, ITV1 is probably at it's best and worst right now. They've had excellent dramas over the last couple of years, though too many are focused on police mysteries. Their flagship soaps and drama are doing very well, but need to be scheduled better to allow a better variety in programming.

ITV News is back on the up - but the 11pm bulletin allowed a far better schedule. ITV also have some great Saturday night programmes like X Factor, Millionaire and Takeaway - but when they are not on there are no decent replacements.

In my opinion the best era of iTV was 1968-31/12/1992 when Thames Was On air. Sorry but that's my honest opinion.

When Carlton came on air at midnight 1st jan 1993 it all went downhill very quickly

It has to the latter years of the 1970's, individual companies providing a diverse selection of programming. ITV would be a lot stronger now and would achieve must more respect if gave the viewer a choice instead of churning out endless pap, daily episodes of soap and endless dectective dramas.

I doubt there are many on here to remember it but I'd go back to the original 1955 to 1965 era, with the diverse selection, as mentioned, and hardly a nod in the direction of networking that the punter would have picked up on.

The years of learning, the years of getting most of it right and, yes, the years of a licence to print money.

Personally, I loved those 2000-2002 ECPs - it was the perfect balance between credit design allowing for upcoming programme promotion and maintaining a warm and pleasant feel to it.
Even when there was no promotion running (eg through the night), they still looked good, as most programmes had some sort of moving/animated design going on on the right hand side (as is evident behind the Twister promotion).

The current ECPs are SO plain and boring, and quite frankly annoying.

I'd much rather have credits stay in their on-screen position and have promotion 'added' to the screen ( like 2000 - 2002) rather than have the credits moved around like we have today.

Nope. See, every Sunday, a group of TV Forumers used to gather in a marsh in Grimsby and chat for 7 hours about ITV, nicknamed the 'Maggie' Marsh for obvious reasons. It was reasonably fun until the police cordoned off the area two years ago after a heated argument as to whether the 1971-78 LWT ident was better than the 1978-86 LWT ident.

Sorry, carry on.

Wasn't Maggie Mash on Radio Humberside, or was that Dave Nash?
