Three highlights on tonight's swansong show...

1: My vicious, yet hilarious attack on Carol Vorderman from 1993...

2: Debble King's hilario... Sorry... Terrible fall on an edition of Quizmania...

3: The poignant ending.

Not long to go now....

A nice ending, a lone shot of the clipboard, sad to see Denis go. This really hasn't had the promotion it deserved! It seems ITV have just wanted to get rid of him.

Saw Debbie's fall. Some classic clips in there. Laughing

I enjoyed that, some classic clips and some great new laughs. Sad to see Denis go he's been round for as long as I can remember. I hope he has a long and happy retirement.

All the best, Denis!

I second that, a true legend in his own laugh -time. It's thanks to Denis that I've developed a fascination for wordplay and puns!

There can be only one master though - and that is Denis. But what a good finale, and he fully deserved the standing ovation at the end.

Three cheers for Denis - hip, hip - HOORAY! Hip, hip - HOORAY! Hip, hip - HOORAY!!!!!!!!!

Very Happy

It was as follows:

"...and that came from our file which was originally labelled That Was Actually Transmitted, until it was realised what its initials spelled out."

What was the joke in the second Countdown clip? (Paul Zenon and Des Lynam)

Was he not supposed to be able to unlock the money?

It's what you call a "delayed reaction". Ronnie Barker was also very good at this - to wit, some of his excellent spokesperson routines, and the spoof News Items, on the Two Ronnies. One of the best forms of comedy IMO.

Given that many of the artistes featured in the "classic" clips are no longer with us, and that Denis has now retired from television, it's fair to say that the classic era of comedy - of good, old-fashioned humour, of double entendres and without the need to resort to profanities to get a laugh - is fast coming to an end.
