AND the Greggles Vorderman Grab - Both on the show!

Was that you?!? I haven't seen that blooper in ages, 'twas a classic.

Aye lad, was me... 1993 it was, I was walking round the back of the set between shows, saw the potential, had a word with the producer / director, and we did it on the very next show.

Got a lovely story to tell about it that I will return to some other time... But I must avast to a meeting right now... A nice meeting. After a horrible drive into London.

I'm waffling.

Why doesn;t ITV3 Or ITV 4 repeat the "all right on the night" showI would love to No8 again, and 10, 13,

actully the whole Lot

I'd too would love to see them all repeated again. Though, in reality the cost of repeating an It'll be Alright on the Night is probably out of ITV3 or 4's budget given the residual payments to each and every actor in each and every clip.

There actully quite alot, Here just a few form the list I got form LWT:

apart from the two Kids from all right on the nigh

alos

ARON:
"late at night" ,
"cock - up trip",
"the worst of ..."
"second worst ..
"10 years of .."

there about 25 ARON show plus another, 20 odd other type shows "

I think Simon Withington might be able to help here!

Regular editions - AOTN, 2-4, Christmas Night (aka AOTN 5), 6-8, Cockup Trip (9), 10-13, More Kids (14), 15 (aka Silver Jubilee Special), 16, All Star Special (17), 18-20.

Specials: Worst, Alright on the Day, Late at Night, Second Worst, 10 Years of..., Utterly Worst, Kids From, 21 Years of..., Election Night.

Add on the Laughter Files (13 editions) and it amounts to 42 programmes relating to cockups and bloopers.

Whoops - left off AOTN's 50 Years of ITV.

Gosh, you really do know your stuff Steven O. I had to think about that list for a while!

I don't think the Vorderman "hand" clip was on Alright on the Night though - if memory is correct, it was actually shown on the 2nd Laughter File.

(I'm informed that Mr Withington appears in the last clip in the 5th Laughter File, where the staff in the office all play a joke on Denis as he is rounding off the 4th Laughter File. And he didn't get paid for his appearance, either....!)

I wonder if the producers had to pay Denis to feature that clip - after all you did say that all performers featured in LF and AOTN clips get paid...! Laughing

With all the talk being about Michael Grade returning to ITV, there's a lesser-known fact about him - he was one of the men who brought AOTN to ITV, the others being Paul Smith (who produced the early AOTNs) and of course Denis himself.

The story goes that apparently Denis and Paul were discussing out-takes in the LWT canteen back in 1977 (or nineteen-mumble-mumble as Denis once put it, in AOTN 11) when Denis suggested the idea of a show being made from out-takes. A call from the LWT canteen phone resulted in Denis and Paul being summoned to see Michael, who was then LWT's Head of Programmes. He gave them the nod, and the rest is history. So now you know!

Here's a handy site which relates this story:

And an even lesser known fact... Michael Grade did the warm up for the very first It'll be Alright on the Night back in 1977!
As Denis tells it, It'll be Alright on the Night was one of Grade's last commissions at LWT and since one of his unfulfilled ambitions was to act as a warm up man, he took the opportunity. Grade bought a revolving bow tie and by general admission he was spectacularly awful!

Well I never!!! So Mr Grade was that keen to get involved with the project, he decided to do the warm up as well!!! Laughing

Something suggests to me that the first AOTN was a lot better than Mr Grade's act that evening. Wink

Ahh - this seems like the thread.
(Someone beat me to the canteen story, so.....)

Little known fact that Denis talked Michael Grade out of making It'll Be Alright On The Night into a weekly show and led him gently down the path of occasional specials (thank god Gradey listened)

I remember hearing that somewhere too. It would never have worked had it been weekly, and Denis clearly knew that.
It also allowed plenty of time to get each new edition together, as Denis didn't just write and present AOTN, but he also viewed all the clips submitted as well as compiling them for each show.

AFAIK the only rule that he had was that if anyone who fell over in a clip didn't get back up, or if the studio audience laughter was malicious, then it wasn't used.
