I always seem to overlook Five's pres, but that's a good point. Channel 4 were the innovators, and what's more, their idents seem better overall (than Five).
If BBC TWO's next look has more idents as visually great as Fire, I'll be chuffed. Funny how it's also the only ident among the regulars to not have a bright yellow background throughout.

Didn't chanel three invent that by a maknig the heart appear in everyday scenes, like the lamp and sofa in the removal van, the chef's photo upside down, the motorways making the heart?

I really can't understand the constant mentions of BBC2. They've mostly stuck some arms on a big 2 and made it do some quite boring things, and the general presentation of the channel is pretty dull. I've never been impressed.
National Geographic Channel is looking pretty cool these days I reckon.

BBC1 used to be good with the 'globe' balloon flying over UK locations, that was an excellent idea. Then they replaced those idents with irrelevant, political-correct, nonsense idents instead

Channel 4 by a country mile. BBCs is pretty inconsistent at the moment and BBC One is dire.

Well it really depends on how you look at this one. As I remeber, five launched thier original "adapting everyday scenes to form TV Station Logo" on 1st November 2004 (see here), and Channel 4 lanched thiers on 31st December 2004, so really, five got there first.
The progression of these were then launced in January of this year, which are not "adapting everyday scenes to form the TV sation logo" as the logo isn't actually in the idents. (see here)

"Constant mentions"? You'll find the last instance picked out only 2 of the idents in the set (Morris Dancers, and Fire -- the latter being the only truly superb ident IMO), for a specific aspect and not overall. The real channel receiving the constant mentions in here is Channel 4, and with good reason.
I agree with your summary of the current look of TWO; and to me it seems something of an oversight that many of these idents rely on comical gags instead of visual impact, which has almost been entirely overlooked; and the CG sequences lack something that the live action real 2's had - still, BBC TWO's pres is a mile better than ITV1 and most of BBC ONE too.
Surely you don't mean you've never been impressed by BBC TWO at all ? If you do, I can only assume you were living under a rock from 1991 - 2001.

No...the innovators were S4C, using everyday items in their idents as early as 1993.
