As some BBC Regions prepare to launch on DSAT,the search begins for the best BBC Regional Weather presenter.

In the North West, Dianne Oxberry is truely awful whilst Heather Stott at least adds some enthusiasm into the subject. Spotlights Craig Rich is easily the most experienced and most professional whilst BBC London News gets to draw on talent from the Weather Centre like David Braine and Isobel Lang? So who is the best?

As we don't have regional weather presenters here in the South East, I'd have to say Emily Maitlis gave the best weather forecast I've ever seen on the Beeb a few months back when there was some electrical fault and they couldn't link from Marylebone Road to TVC.

Emily was so excited, bless her! She said something like 'Because of an electrical fault we can't link to Michael Fish for the weather, so you'll have to put up with me doing it, I'll do it as best I can because I've always wanted to do this! Tonight, will be dry and cloudy....'

It was brilliant! Come on BBC, give Emily her wish and let her do the weather too!

Ah, but Craig isn't a meterologist ... ie, not an officially trained Met Office forecaster.

Bet ya didn't know that

Yep, Craig's a sailor, or boatbuilder, or something like that, by profession, isn't he, I Hate?

I think he must be the longest serving in any BBC region by now, having started before Tony Target(t?) in Bristol, who's retired himself now.

Yup - he's ex-Navy, and the longest serving BBC weatherman.

He was certainly there just longer than Tony - who I saw the other day, still looking well Smile

Excuse me for being predictable......

Paul Hudson, BBC Look North.

Surely the hottest warm front to grace a weather map.

Debate closed, swoon, swoon, swoon, swoon......

Talking of seeing people, I was propping up a bar with Mr Hodgetts last night, I Hate.

Your name came up! http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Really? Good old Shaun!

I was at the station last Thursday but he wasn't in ... probably off with little one. There's a very amusing picture of him and Sophie in the BBC WS magazine, he's got dribble all down his back. Insert caption here.

Why did my name come up? I hate to think Smile

Actually ... probably wanted to know the Inverness CT score ...

In joke, ask him next time you're propping up said Devizes bar Smile
