Racism and racist jokes should never be accepted, even if it comes from a "So-Called" comedian...

Jokes about different races, and about women, are not really jokes, its Racism and Sexism, and if his death brings and end to any of that, well then RIP, and lets move on as a society!

"Move on" to a society of what...more tip-toeing, pussy-footing around?

You can have Humor and Acceptance.

There is a difference about INTENTIONALLY offending people like Mr Manning, and accidentally offending someone by sending them a Christmas Card even if they are Jewish...

Is that truly what you believe the alternative is? What are you, 7? I thought only children saw things as polar opposites.

Didn't you know that "alternative" comedy was borne out of people hating what Manning stood for? There's a whole galaxy of stars around today because they believed they could be funny without bigotry.

Manning's jokes were for small minded people. I suppose that tells us a lot about you, Paul.

A victim of political correctness if ever there was one. RIP Bernard.

You really come across as a fool sometimes, Simon.

Did you find his jokes about "Paki women with dots on their heads" and "stupid cripples" funny?

Most people will admit that there are times that this country suffers from a fear of offending *anyone*, but Manning was the reason why the PC revolt started.

He was the epitome of a crude vile hate-filled bigot.

Did Bernard Manning even do jokes about "stupid cripples" (your words, not mine)?

As for "Paki women with dots on their heads" (again, your words not mine), I think they are fair game as much as any other religion is. Everyone is equal. Jokes about everyone please. Thats what living in a [equal] multicultural society is all about.

There is nothing wrong with free speech (note: Rushdie being given a knighthood) or with jokes about any particular section or sub section of society.

The problem comes in what those particular jokes are; and with what attitude they are conveyed.

For example a certain infamous posters 'jokes' about black people - not only are they unfunny they are offensive.

The latest clip linked above showed that Manning wasn't playing on stereotypes - he was actually racist; to claim that skin colour denotes nationality is outdated. If that Youtube user is actually him (and i've not done any investigation) it shows that he is still proud of that material regardless of when it was filmed.

I really do admire your attitude! I just like this small minded comedy, as you put it.

I feel that not having comedy/attitudes like this anymore is still not having the desired results. Society is more divided because of political correctness than it ever was with fat c*nts like Bernard saying silly jokes.

Why do we, as a society, have to offend everyone. Comedy doesn't have to offend. Some programmes, have managed to poke fun at all sides, such as South Park, but they usually have a political point to make, and they poke fun at those offending people, as well as does offended.

Manning had neither the intellectual capacity to make observations in a non offensive way, nor a message about society as a whole. He had his views on the other races in the UK, and on the woman's role in society, and neither views are right for a culture of acceptance and multiculturalism, or equality between the sexes...

I suppose he would also hate the gays and bisexuals aswell!!!

EDIT: For those who say they like it, the issue is that if it is ignored, and if people see it without condemnation, they will think its right, and it will continue from generation to generation.

My dad would find him funny, but I don't, and I know he is from a different generation, but thats no excuse, and I know he's wrong for making them jokes.

Oddly enough, if you look at his stage shows, a lot his audience was made up of the very people he took the mickey out of!

The question is, was Manning laughing at the stereotypes or laughing with them? Bear in mind a couple of years ago he refused to play a BNP rally in Lancashire!

Sacha Baron-Cohen, Jo Brand and Jimmy Carr do similar humour to Bernard Manning, yet get away with it-- why is this?

Bear in mind Manning had Jewish ancestry, yet he took the p*ss out Jews and was lambasted for this. Yet Lenny Henry used to take the p*ss out black people, yet that is accepted.

Whilst it can argued that some Bernard Manning's jokes were unforgiveably sexist/racist etc, there does seem to a lot of double standards surrounding this sort of humour; as C4's recent docu World's Most Offensive Joke highlighted.
