That was certainly spectacular! I really enjoyed it, and the Olympics themselves. Now I am going to be really bored. Never seen the Paralympics before so looking forward to these ones.

I sincerely hope not.

Ditto, it was pretty poor

The half-hour Eddie Butler highlights edit they ran at 12 noon was just simply brilliant, beatifully written, beautifully produced and beautifully edited. Great choice of music as well - and fantastic light and shade.

Looks like it's currently being shown on the red button

Anyone recognise the Shipping Forecast in that London section of the ceremony? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7578960.stm

The animation that started it off was fantastic, it even managed to make the logo look good too!

Can anyone tell me who was the commentator (female) on the opening and closing ceremonies at Bejing 2008?

TIA

Yeah I recognised it - it was in the opening video for about 3 seconds.

It's a pitty there was no proper close to the Olympics 2008 BBC programme, instead linking straight to this live concert (which it may just be me seems totally surplus to requirements and fairly generic 'live BBC concert')

Think the main credits ran at the end of the last Games Today yesterday. Like this year's Wimbledon, there was a very nice edit with the credits integrated into it rather than just slapping a crawl over the top.

Yep - the compilation of highlights was superb.

Here it is again, for those who missed it first time around...

Well I know it's not being shown in Australia.

RTÉ didn't show it either.

Incidently flicking between BBC and RTÉ I noticed the BBC kept cutting to shots of The Mall during the closing ceremony, which RTÉ obviously didn't. RTÉ had the cheek to cut to a commercial break just before the animated red bus sequence and didn't return till a bit after.

I thoroughly enjoyed the closing ceremony, along with the Olympics as a whole. The coverage from the BBC has also been quite simply excellent, with some very well made montages today. I look forward to seeing the Paralympic Games, as having never watched it before (apart from the odd few minutes of viewing in 2004) it should be interesting to see how it compares to the main games.

As for London's 8 minutes, while it may not compare to the spectacular displays from the Chinese, I thought it was quite good, and it was nice to see them incorporate so many elements of British culture. On top of that, I'm sure I heard the BBC Greenwich Time Signal towards the end of introductory animation. Bring on London 2012 I say!

As you say, quite simply superb production values, and so much better integration of credits into a sequence.

Raises hairs on the back of the neck.

Somebody on youtube has made a really good montage for the London 2012 Opening ceremony

AFAIK no, it wasn't. But the pictures of the crowds in the Mall were made available to other broadcasters to use as they wish, for example in France they went to a split screen during the quiet few moments after the London bus went on it's way out and before the next segment of the ceremony began.
