Great archive footage, but bloody hell 1976 was poor wasn't it? All the old stuff about the seventies being sh*t distilled into one half-hour package. Praise the lord above for punk.

I'd dearly love to see all the shows from my favourite TOTP era (1987-1997) again, but let's face it - the chances of BBC Four sticking faithfully to this plan for the next 21 years are pretty much non-existent.
Surely there has to be a better way of doing this - perhaps by showing 3 episodes back-to-back every Thursday, thus ploughing through the archive more quickly. Or showing another run from, say, 1986-onwards on a different night of the week.
If they did end up showing the whole lot, all kinds of issues spring to mind. What of all the celeb guest presenters during the 1994-96 period? I wonder if any of those celebs insisted on a clause in the contract (as with Jack Dee / Les Dennis on Celebrity Big Brother 1) preventing any future transmission of the footage?
Will they repeat the 3 episodes presented by Gary Glitter from 1994-96 (or, for that matter, Glitter's numerous performances on TOTP over the years)?

Speaking of DS, they report last night's overnight ratings from BBC Four:
Big Hits: TOTP 1964 to 1975 - 880k (3.7%)
Top of the Pops: The Story of 1976 - 1.13m (5.7%), the channel's largest Friday audience in its history.
TOTP, 1.4.1976 - 850k (5.8%)
Top of the Pops: The True Story - 675k (7.2%)
Certainly impressive, but not indicative of how ratings will hold up for the repeats, of course. No doubt, the pre-Friday publicity given to the TOTP repeats helped.

... and so the run has started, with Noel upfront, interesting to note that the iPlayer version for tonight's is also DOGless.

And not stretched to 16:9 like at Christmas!

Episode for 5th May 1976 doesn't exist in BBC archive?
I wonder whether the novelty has already worn off, or if there's some other good reason - but there's no TOTP in tomorrow's BBC Four schedule.
