I think you find that the final episode of Ant and Dec had a peak of 7.1 million whereas Doctor Who only managed 7.0 million whilst both programmes were on at the same time! Therefore the highest peak of that Doctor Who episode might not (and probably didnt) occur whilst both programmes were on together!

BUT

Ant and Dec did officially get the highest figure whilst both programmes were on at the same time!

what should/can ITV do to compete with Dr who?

Short of putting Ant n Dec up against it for the full 13 weeks, I doubt theres a show that can compete?

Though even though it didn't win, it did attract 7 - 8 million viewers, compared with the average of 3 million for celebrity wrestling.

ITV need to take a look at Saturday nights.
The fact is that in the autumn they can win them with The X Factor, Ant & Dec, Millionaire and Parky (perhaps with the comedy dramas that they had last year).

Yet coming up to the middle of this year, Millionaire is still on (Surely Sept - April is enough, and give it a 5 month break, and come up with a new quiz show idea.

Ant & Dec works, but surely if they persevere with other people, can't they do as well?

Take Johnny & Denise from last year, it wasn't a bad programme, and with tweaks to it and changing in parts each week, it most probably would do better with a second series (though the Beeb aren't giving another run).

And what happened to programmes that used to air in the summer, such as Don't Try This At Home, and You Bet, etc. They all pulled in the ratings, yet ITV didn't want to know.

If you're going to get rid of programmes, replace them with better programmes. Even Love On A Saturday Night was better than this current line up, and once again, with tweaking that could have worked as well!

Just wait until Doctor Who finishes, I'm sure ITV will claim back some viewers at that point

What about Hit me Baby..., in my opinion that's not a bad format, better than Strictly Dance Fever, yet it isn't doing very well, no doubt due to the Doctor Who effect, at any other time it would have done much better

Also there is a big difference between a show under performing when there is rubbish on the other side to a show under performing when a good show is on the other side

I think Strictly Dance Fever isn't doing well simply because it's one "Strictly" show too far. Strictly Come Dancing is a great show and once a year will be enough, we don't need a watered down version just to please Mr Norton. But saying that it is, to my knowledge better that naff nostalgia rubbish on ITV1.

Someone somewhere at ITV really needs to look at the number of naff programmes that simply haven't work and put together a more varied package. We want a mixture of comedy, quizzes, entertainment and drama. Not wall to well Z list **** and back to back soap. Not hard to do really if you think about.

Hit me Baby is boring, I switched off after the first week. ITV need some fresh ideas for Saturday nights, instead of the same type of shows all the time. How much longer are they going to show Millionaire on a Saturday night Rolling Eyes

Well it all depends - it's like when people say that BBC Six Oclock news beats ITV News hands down. AS they arent on at the same time you cant really compare like with like.

Therefore if you are comparing Ant and Dec versus Doctor Who you can only compare the actual time when both programmes overlap!

THEREFORE

Whilst both programmes were on air Ant and Dec out performed Doctor Who!

BUT

Comparing ITV with BBC on the same night the BBC performed better!

I'm just trying to even the balance in this forum at the moment which appears to be slag off EVERYTHING on ITV. Celebrity Wrestling is awful and should be stuck on ITV2, whereas Hit Me Baby One More Time is quite a good concept but scheduled too early in the evening! It's great seeing all these old artists perform again.

Maybe people on this forum aren't enjoy HMBOMT for a few reasons :-

1) Maybe they are too young to actually remember the artists first time around and so have no connection with the programme?
2) Huge Doctor Who fans who stick with the BBC all night!?
3)Not given the programme a chance and are making comments after only glimpses of the first show?

Celeb Wrestling was 'apparently' down to 2.56m this week, so I expect Mr Pickard will be looking at it sooner rather than later.

With renewed interest in Star Wars with the new film coming out, I'm half expecting them to roll out the Star Wars trilogy again.

You don't happen to work in ITV's sheduling department by any chance?

I think that perhaps ITV should move their slots scheduled for dramas on Monday and Tuesday nights to Saturday nights -from what I've heard they seem to be one of ITV's greatest assets...and there's usually a decent cast as well.

Perhaps a "Celebrity" show with actual celebrities?

I agree Hit Me Baby One More Time is a better format than I expected (and though I've generally only heard of one act per show, you usually recognise the song).

I thought ITV may at least switch it with Celeb Wrestling.
