Jeremy Clarkson used to always take the mickey out of the slogan on TopGear, usually when him and Hammond were reading viewers letters out at the TopGear office desk (a feature that seems to have been dropped).

A routine that sticks out in my mind was:

Clarkson: Have you got a pen?
Hammond hands him a broken pen
Clarkson: Oh great we haven't even got a working pen here at TopGear, and remember the BBC can only do this because of the unique way it is funded: by you.

Or words to that effect.

EDIT Embarassed Woops, just realised Mr. Stabby made a similar comment on the previous page. Well anyway, theres an example of how he mocked it.

Don't forget... "They can only continue to make small people's programmes thanks to the unique way it is paid for by the big people."

Yep, that was the actual slogan. Meanwhile the "...unique way we are funded" would indeed change to match the context.

The "You make it what it is" slogan was parodied a few years back on Dead Ringers - it was the radio sketch about the BBC cash-in video on the best of the Sports Personality of the Year acceptance speeches. At the end, the narrator said "The BBC. You make it what it is. Rich." Laughing
