BBCi update on Freeview

Not sure if it has been mentioned before, according to the forums on digitalspy the new BBCi has launched on Freeview.

I've not seen it as i'm at work but the signs are good and it seems that it's better (in most ways) than Sky Digital.

Highlights include a new display for tracks on BBC radio stations (like a digital radio).

However the news headlines feed isn't as yet but the signs are that that is imminent too!

Tell me what you think guys - i won't know until 7pm tonight!

The main page when you load BBCi is the same as that on DSat, but the rest is just like the old style BBCi.

The bridge has replaced the i-bar and there are some new full-screen CBeebies games, but that's about it. The bulk of the service is still the same, except for some changes to the help section. The News Multiscreen hasn't launched yet, but the radio stations have new MHEGS showing info about the current programme, and on 6Music info about the current track.

This does sound good, but on my old ITV Digital box of junk upstairs I bet its slow as hell.

Is it all fine on other old On Digital boxes?

It's absolutely fine on my Pioneer ITV Digital box - in fact it's quicker than the old BBCi Bar.

ooh - I love the new Radio MHEGS - much much nicer.

The bridges are not perfect IMO - they are a tad hard to read and the rest of the stuff is the same.

But Radio 4 doesn't flicker anymore - YAY

Now to have a got with these CBeebies games - are they only on with the channel as I can't find them.

Where? On BBC TWO now, I haved pressed red, got that purple thing then the second thing down is CBeebies. Pressed select and it just takes you to the old CBeebies pages on BBCi and all th text rubbish etc. Where are the full games?



On BBC4 after pressing red there is a News Multiscreen option. After selecting that it takes me to channel 703 where there are 2 screens or so. But if you just go to 703 normally, it says ‘Technical fault etc etc Came back shortly’. I hope it starts soon then.

You have to acess it via the CBeebies channel by selecting 'Come nad Play' or something like that.
You'll have to wait til 6am im afraid!!

Well I hope it’s worth the wait! As long as there not a bad as the ones on sky. That Angelmouse or what ever its called Carrot game is mad. The bloody Mouse moves TOO slowly to get the carrots, but I'm sure some 3 year old can do it as well it was designed with them in mind not me!

There are actually 6 games coming under 2 categories:
1. Fireman Sam
2. Bob the Builder

The games are certainly not the best idea of fun I've had in while, but I don't think it's the kind of thing you stay up all night for!!

I quite like the new menu bar that comes up when you initialy press red:

However on the mini-screen function you can't seem to be able to select a feed. Hopefully this will be rectified soon

Then when you select any other option from the main menu, you just get the old style screen. Hopefully they'll update this look soon too.

Well I'm getting to select a feed, but I'm not getting audio on the first one 'News Headlines' and it keeps pausing.

However I'm getting the Live Plus option fine.

Looks like 703 isn't just a Text Data channel, looks like it will be getting those extra features.
