From the quality of your mocks Ben I was just about to sigh that you'd put it in the main forum -- until I realised it was a real new logo! When do you plan to do more by the way? It's been ages.

Anyway, interesting new logo -- but I thought the BBC were dropping the "i"!

They've only dropped it from the BBC website. Interactive TV services will keep the BBCi name.

So when will we see any changes to BBC i on Freeview? The current 'Home' menu looks awful, and it's now even harder to find things with the introduction of the page numbers. I hope that Freeview viewers will see a change soon, so that we can say goodbye to the irritating 'Press Red' in the corner of our screens at that tacky lime green promo box.

Thanks..I think! The logo has definitely grown on me, though - just a matter of getting the old logo out of my head, I suppose - when I looked at it the first time it just looked like someone had plonked a circle with an "i" over the old logo!

Yeah, I know I really should do some more mocks. I've been working on a couple of sets on and off for ages, maybe in the next week or two I'll have a go at seeing if I can get them ready to post.

EDIT: However, if anyone wants to see another design I've been working on, click here...

BBCi on NTL has been rather odd lately, as we still have the old BBCi Bridge with the old Logo, which is still shown on eTV applications, but when it comes to the crappy walled garden content it hasn't changed, except for the new logo. Frankly BBCi on NTL has always been lagging behind everyone else for sometime now.

Perhaps. Although the colours of the new logo move close to ITV's effort, let's not forget that the ITVi logo was a blatant and frankly ridiculous rip-off of the original BBCi logo that smacked of a complete lack of creative thinking. How on earth the ITVi logo got through several layers of decision makers without someone getting worried that they were so obviously ripping off the BBCi logo, I'll never quite understand.

At least the new BBCi logo, while hardly a paragon of flair and excitement shows some creative thought in that the red blob obviously symbolises a red remote control button. I eagerly await ITV's *cough* "homage" to the new BBCi logo.

Indeed, had ITV not copied the logo, the BBC may well have gone down this route, just changing the colours of their existing logo.

No thanks to ITV, they understandably took the decision to change the logo.

I'd like the BBCi logo to be something similar to the BBC website logo with the faded pale blue squares.

Eugh. Why?

Anyway, the only reason the bbc.co.uk logo that you like so much was introduced was to introduce a greater distinction between online services and interactive television services. Re-integrating the two, or even introducing a degree of similarity between the two, would undo all the effort that's gone into promoting each of the 'New Media' strands separately. Likewise, when iMP starts to come online, expect a different look to BBCi and bbc.co.uk.

It was a good idea to originally bring interactive TV and the website under the same BBCi brand, but it is less confusing and more intuitive for older or less tech-minded audiences for their to be a separate bbc.co.uk (which is obviously the website) and BBCi (offering a clearly branded and distinct interactive TV service), with less chance of confusion between the two.
