True as that is, he is right on this one.

Not only is there a silly system of having 4 digit numbers in addition to 3 digit numbers when there is simply no need for them (Ceefax doesn't use the 700s any more, use them) but you have to press select to get to pages. Also only index pages seem to have them while individual story pages lack them. The whole thing looks like an afterthought as if they are still clinging to the false hope of everyone using the clunky menu systems

I do agree with you on the 4 digit thing. Isn't it 4 digit for interactive though?

Plus the select thing is there due to 3 & 4 digits, but also there just incase you make a mistake.
Are the menu's a real problem? For things like news, etc there's no use having a certain page, and you'd have to go to the menu anyway, surely.

The press release says that all of BBCi will be red, white & black, so why is this blue & white!!!?

That's the colour of the loading screen for BBCi on Telewest and NTL, AFAIK I don't think it's an easy thing to change. Don't know what the colour of the loading screen is on Sky and Freeview doesn't have this IIRC.

As soon as you press text or red on sky, you get the retangle in the top right over the programming, then the bridge appear, you get no blue screen, that's what the introduction of the bridge did.
When you go to an interactive feed, you get orange squares with the i over, obviously this will change.

I think that BBCi have tried to be too clever. The justification for 4 digit numbers is it's for pages that don't appear on Ceefax.

The thing with BBCi is page numbers are only used for indexes - so once you begin reading stories etc you have to either use the < > keys or return to the index.

Both Sky and Teletext where possible number every page (though Sky don't show the numbers in menus). Some pages on Teletext aren't numbered, but the indexes are.

Agreed the 4-digit page numbers are confusing, but my main gripe with BBCi on Sky is that when going into the 'full' mode, you can't continue watching the channel you had on. Just because I want to check the local cinema listings, doesn't mean I want to watch an entertainment news bulletin.

Originally BBCi / BBC Text allowed you to 'Change TV' via one of the coloured buttons to any BBC channel which was quite useful. Don't know why they ditched this (unless it was impossible once all the BBC1 regions were added to DSat).

Also, why not just make all content available via the Bridge? It seems quite random as to how they've decided which sections are available on the Bridge and which are available in full mode. For instance, why should Soap News be available on the Bridge, but Soap Updates only in the full mode?

I agree with that. I presume it's to get more viewers watching the entertainment feed.
In my opinion the only full screen content should be the interactive content on things, such as CBeebies, the interactive sports and the News 6 screens and 10 extra, etc.

I hope this means a new Press Red button, the current one looks very dated, probably the font I dont know.

Why is it just on Telewest & not Sky or Freeview?

In fact, according to the Digital Spy forums, the new-look to BBCi launched yesterday (Tuesday) on Sky.

So for those of us with Freeview, there's possibly not long to wait, hopefully?...

Indeed it did. Everything loads in the same way as before, it's just the new style bridge in it's new colours and the new logo on the pages.

I was expecting the Press Red DOG to have incorporated the new logo, but it still appears to be the same as ever.

From the quality of your mocks Ben I was just about to sigh that you'd put it in the main forum -- until I realised it was a real new logo! When do you plan to do more by the way? It's been ages.

Anyway, interesting new logo -- but I thought the BBC were dropping the "i"!
