Network BBC2, Scotland and NI were as normal - which on my HDMI SKYHD Connection forces everything in Widescreen hence 'stretchy vision'.

If you set 'Output Format' to 'Auto' rather than 1080i or 720p then SD 4:3 (12F12) transmissions will be output from the box with the correct switching signal.

Switching back to an HD channel, will cause the box to switch to 1080i, though it does thrash around a bit to do that.

If only that were true. This makes no difference - if you view via HDMI - some TV's don't automatically switch - Scart connections do this automatically - but not all HDMI.

No need at all for them to broadcast 4:3 programmes in a 16:9 frame. Digital receivers are capable of handling that themselves, which means viewers can then set them up to how they want them (black bars, cropped or - god forbid - stretched).

As I've already mentioned not entirely true - whilst the digital receiver may do this not all HD TV's connected via HDMI can read the pulse to change the aspect ratio hence the stretchy vision!

Scart socket connections are fine.

The problem lies with my TV brand LG as these postings show:

Maybe I need a new TV Laughing

Out of interest, what TV is it ? Works OK on my Sony Bravia, it's part of the HDMI spec that it should switch, so you could pursue the TV set manufacturer under the Sale of Goods act Very Happy

Is 'Dad's Army' ever likely to be 'remastered' along the lines of the Goodies & classic Dr Who DVDs, as I'm sure I saw a slight drop out during 'Branded' last night!

(Obviously I know about the recovered B & W Vidfired episodes!)

The amount of times the show has been repeated, I'm surprised the tapes haven't worn out! (I know it's on a server, before you lot say!)

Is there a minimum transmission standard before someone says 'The technical quality is too crap to broadcast?
