BBC2 'The Wrong Mans' Ident

The box (and in particular this BBC Two box) is such an awkward, ugly logo. What has long been forgotten is that it was designed to be displayed big and bold on the left of the screen, in front of complementary colours and idents that were filmed sympathetically, leaving plenty of space. That just about worked.

The mini white version works best as it keeps it the heck out of the way, seeing as nothing is designed with it in mind any more. That should be the primary logo for now until the day someone gets a grip of the complete mess of a branding system.


Yep, it certainly is the Lambie-Nairn "2". Would be interesting to know if it's another rescued prop or a newly commissioned model, although I suspect the former.

Really, a black BBC TWO box? A purple box would be more suitable! Purple box, Lambie-Nairn '2', very Home ident-esque - perfect combination!

Whatever colour it looks hideous. They'd be best off keeping the "50 Years" idea but perhaps replacing the "50 Years" with the "2" itself.

The Backchat trail also has a physical "2" and it's the pre-2007 one again. I don't remember seeing this one used anywhere on air before?

I wonder if the use of so many physical '2's is a sign of a rebrand/refresh in the new year.

I doubt it, but we can hope.

As much as "people idents" can be awful BBC2 could (and have) do a lot worse than just filming some fairly straight forward scenes and just stick a physical 2 in the background - would be preferable to a dodgy animation.

Hmm, I'm hoping they'll give the 1991/1997 look a new lease of life, like they did with the 50 Years set - perhaps bringing some 2007-esque enboards in while they're at it to replace those dreadful "bouncy" ones?

If anything,I hope they use something like the '2' in the BackChat promo in the idents.

BBC Scotland does have its own version of this ident, shocker.

Oh, yeh, and another thing, just what is the point in persisting with the comedy window endboards if you're not even going to use the window bit properly?

That Backchat trail ends with Nick Hewer hil-ariously dressed as Whitehall's father but, as he's on the right of the screen, he's immediately covered up by the endboard, while the "2" space showcases... the grey window next to him.

Just revert to the pre-2007 trail format already. Then you don't even have to think about these things (not that they are anyway).

The trouble with the older 2 shape, is that it feels top heavy, like the spine of the letter is not strong enough to sustain the weight

One thing is clear, they're not getting rid of the '2' any time soon.
