It really is as bad as it can get, even some of the CGI BBC1/2 stings from the mid-90s looked miles more state of the art than this, which I can only assume was the result of a novice using Blender (which is capable of things many times more interesting than what we've seen tonight).

It really wouldn't look out of place with "DEMO" splashed across it, would it?

Whether budget restraints or lack of skill is to blame, far better things have been produced with less. It's about utilising what you've got and masking what you ain't.

As it's temporary (I think/hope), I can put up with it but it's rather naff. Not happy to see the teal box back. Since becoming used to the smaller white '50 Years' one, it looks bulkier and more intrusive than it did whilst the window idents were still in use.

We were told the classic 90s idents would see 2015, if I recall correctly. If that's the case, are they going to change the 50 years thing on them?

Actually, one thing I don't like about that ident is the fatter post-2007 '2'. The change was needed for the windows idents but it just looks wrong, to me, in solid form. I hope it's not a signal that the windows idents will be back in the new year.

Well they have gone through some changes that probably wouldn't have happened full stop if the 90s idents were only temporary, such as changing the pre-programme ident on BBC iPlayer for the first time in years.

The ident will probably disappear once series 2 finishes but until then we'll probably see it at every opportunity: promoting the show; the day the show is; before the show etc.

It's being shown in double bills next week and is only 4 episodes in total, so it'll be gone by end of Tuesday I suspect.

Oh last year there were 6 episodes. I rather like the series shame they are rushing it.

It's two 1hr episodes not four 30 minute episodes.

A lot of effort seems to be put into this 2 part series.

They filmed it in August - and happened to be part of an episode in my current town of Bracknell, and because of these episodes airing at the Christmas, we had Christmas decorations up all around town in August Rolling Eyes

I think it could be the first of many. I saw this about Backchat and wondered if they were doing some new idents.

We've taken the 2 out on a day trip to see @jackwhitehall's #Backchat being recorded. It's very excited. http://t.co/rIxDwW9ieU

Is that it? Just these two hour long episodes over Christmas?

That very much looks like the white fluffy one for the 50th stings/idents badly sprayed blue...

I don't know if it has been cut down for some reason.

Firstly it was trimmed from 6 episodes to 4.

Then I thought it would have been broadcast over 4 weeks like the first series was - over 6 respectively. However it was instead just over Christmas.

I was led to believe that the first episode was going out on Christmas day - was anyone else of this illusion? Well the first episode went out tonight.

When I say first I actually mean first 2 as it was an hour long as is next Monday's. They were obviously planned as single episodes though as the title is "X-Mans/White Mans" and the same for 3&4 next week. This highlights the BBC must've decided to not only cut it down to just 4 episodes over 4 weeks (or even 4 sepereate nights) yet 2 episodes over 2 weeks.

I've got to say having really enjoyed the first series and being desperate for a second I was initially shocked it wouldn't air to Christmas but that's not the bad part it's how rushed the BBC have put it out. I think it does quite well in terms of ratings and critical acclaim does make one wonder why they've made these choices.

Possibly premature but any announcement about a third series?

EDIT: Further disappointment as I've just been reminded the next episode(s) isn't next Monday and is instead tomorrow.
