The kindest thing I can say about it is it realises the potential of using the '2' as a characterful thing again. That's good.
The execution is downright rubbish, I mean seriously, approaching 2015 - Toy Story happened 20 years ago, the state of that animation. The concept is a strange one, a chase involving a teal '2' car (not much of a stretch to think of the source of inspiration) that ultimately just stops and fidgets manically off-model. You can see the start of a good idea but it literally goes nowhere.
It's a programme-specific ident, obviously, with a very short lifespan, so nothing to get in a tizzy over. Although, I
really
hope we don't start seeing more of this kind of thing in lieu of regular symbols, as they're nearly always of a much lower standard.
And yeh, there's the beautiful big teal box back again. The ident's so out of whack with the latest/last branding anyway, there really is no good reason for it to be there (other than that no-doubt frantic last minute search for "bbc2 logo" in post).
Edit: you know, it wouldn't have been as noticeably bad/cheap if the final shot was of the '2' static, with some nice slo-mo dust swirling round it. The rubbery twitches are just naff and probably more effort than they needed to go to.
