I'm not quite sure - nice idea but just lacking something to make it really work IMO.

Looks like one of those BBC TWO mocks you find on YouTube. Shocked

It's nice they're trying to bring a bit of character back into the 'two', but it's a rather cheap CGI version and it's held the wrong way round at the end!

I think if they're thinking about going down this route for a rebrand, they're thinking in the right direction though it needs a lot of refinement.

I think too however good the ident was when they slap that box logo on it it instant'y looks 10 times worse.

I agree though as a way forward there is a lot worse they could do than a lifesize "2" interacting with people or things in a scene, but they need to be done right. People always say it's money which is preventing a refresh but spend the money wisely and you'll get an ident set which lasts twice as long as it would if you just do a bodge job.

The kindest thing I can say about it is it realises the potential of using the '2' as a characterful thing again. That's good.

The execution is downright rubbish, I mean seriously, approaching 2015 - Toy Story happened 20 years ago, the state of that animation. The concept is a strange one, a chase involving a teal '2' car (not much of a stretch to think of the source of inspiration) that ultimately just stops and fidgets manically off-model. You can see the start of a good idea but it literally goes nowhere.

It's a programme-specific ident, obviously, with a very short lifespan, so nothing to get in a tizzy over. Although, I really hope we don't start seeing more of this kind of thing in lieu of regular symbols, as they're nearly always of a much lower standard.

And yeh, there's the beautiful big teal box back again. The ident's so out of whack with the latest/last branding anyway, there really is no good reason for it to be there (other than that no-doubt frantic last minute search for "bbc2 logo" in post).

Edit: you know, it wouldn't have been as noticeably bad/cheap if the final shot was of the '2' static, with some nice slo-mo dust swirling round it. The rubbery twitches are just naff and probably more effort than they needed to go to.

There should have kept the white box and said Providing 50 years of service:

It's god-awful. And not just because James Corden is in it...

I wonder why no one else thought of making an ident that looks like a 3d graphics card tech demo from 1995?
It really is as bad as it can get, even some of the CGI BBC1/2 stings from the mid-90s looked miles more state of the art than this, which I can only assume was the result of a novice using Blender (which is capable of things many times more interesting than what we've seen tonight).

I wonder how long it will be before the video is mirrored so the 2 is facing the right way..

Deja vu
