I wouldn't be surprised if we get a few outings of the ice-cube ident if this mini-heatwave turns up tomorrow!

Absolutely, agreed on that. My favourite symbols of current have the 2 without arms, which is how it should be!
Never knew that! This morning's ident on TWO (6am) was none other than Sticky Short...
I am surprised Skateboarders is the default symbol for ONE...mainly because it isn't one of the original set...so what was the default before the Skaters were introduced? I would have thought Capoeira.

As for Sticky Label Short, I think I'm correct in saying, that it is the default symbol placed in all junctions when the 'rough' schedule is put together by the planners (Skateboarders is the default BBC 1 symbol). It is simply there to hold the 'place' of a symbol.
As the schedule moves closer to transmission, and is fine tuned, the default Sticky Label Short is usually replaced by a more appropriate symbol.

If there ever was such thing as a 'default' ident, I suppose Capoeira was it, considering an out of focus still of it was used on the original breakdown slides, occasional programme menus and the never-used clock.
IIRC, the original intention was that Capoeira was to be used going into the news, and I think for the first day or two it was. However, considering most of the junctions into the news carry regional branding, it seemed a bit odd to have a London skyline along with say a BBC One North West logo. Consequently Acrobats was adopted at the main pre-news ident (although Midlands used Ballet until they left Pebble Mill). Since then, Tai Chi was used for a bit, and now it mostly seems to be Skateboarders - although I wouldn't go so far as to say it was the 'default' BBC One ident, just the most appropriate for before a news bulletin.

Yeah. They are "resting it" apparently.
I've just thought, exactly how long has it "rested" for?
If you ask me, I think "rested" was a casual term for "withdrawn".
I can't see it coming back (assuming Red Bee's new look replaces the current lot before the end of the year), and it's been away for so long that at times, I forget it was ever part of the set!

Skateboarders is the default symbol for BBC 1, and is used to hold the 'place' of a symbol when each junction is initially created.

I would say with regards to to a rebrand, keep on the lookout towards the end of the 3rd quarter of this year for information. Unfortunately, this is just a general estimation; we really do not have a precise date at this time.

Fully understood, but I was just saying: the dance idents came on-air in March 2002, yet Skateboarders was not part of the set until September 2003; meaning there would've had to have been a different ident used as the default 'placeholder' before Skateboarders was introduced.
